You have to remove the cab on a ford (6.4&6.7) to do a lot of repairs, so if your warranty runs up when you have the truck fixed it will cost you 6 to 7 hours of the shop labor rate just to remove the cab to make the repair. I'm a ford certified tech. With diesel credentials and drive a duramax! How's that for unbiased

Know how long it takes to get the cab off of a Duramax?

Neither does anyone else.

I actually have seen a cab pulled of a dura slug. One of the head bolts was seized in the head and broke off, it was either pull the motor or cab. The coworker pulled the cab. I don't know why but he thought it would be easier. After removing the cab we could twist the head back and forth to remove the cyclinder head, the bolt was still threaded into the block we heated it and used a pipe wrench to get it out.

My duramax has 275,000 very hard miles I have ran a lot of programmers on it and even stacked programs the ppe hot+2 which was 320 extra ponys. Popped a turbo. I do have a suncoast transmission. Now I have learned to leave it alone, it has a 150 program for fuel mileage and as long as it will get me from point A to B pulling my boat I'm happy. I still have some fun with mustangs from time to time.

Personally owning dodge, GM and a ford DEF truck in the last few years I'm back with GM non DEF. The GM and dodge burned the least by far and the ford was a pig for DEF and fuel. 10 dodge and 11 GM and Ford. All crew cab short box 4x4. Ford gave me fits from day 1 (bought as a demo with around 2k on the clock). Dodge and my 07.5 dodge both got a sticky turbo and would fail to make boost intermittently (corrected by running ex brake and sea foam in VGT internals). GM... Add def and drive it... Hard. Caveat is all my trucks run a tune, generally as hot as I can go.

Dodge IMO can outclass GM in the heavy haul world but GM is a luxury heavy hauler. Both good choices. I'm still trying to get dad to sell me his bone stock 5.9 with 60k on the clock.:drink:

Dodge does have a beefy suspension for sure I wish the duramax had a better setup from the factory. Mine is a 02 with no emissions. No egr valve, no variable turbo, and no def. so I have no input for the def

Kevin, what rear end ratio do you prefer?

Joe, does your buddy with the 2010 have in the back.. Keiths 3.23 rear end will give him a nice advantage on the highway Miles compared a 4.10

Buddy has 3.73 in the 2010, Keith's 2013 is a 3.42 rear

With today's tuners; even prior to DEF and DPF delete the HP that is added calls for a higher rear end gear ratio. The days of 4:10 are over IMO

I agree. Not to mention the modern 6 speed transmissions vs the old days of 3 and 4 speed transmissions.
