Not for nothin, the LLY/5 speed allison Duramaxes aren't bad. I have an 05 very similar to the one pictured. I tow, i plow in the winter, i've had big horsepower programs. Do I wish I had an LBZ/6 speed? Sure, but it does just fine and is garunteed to pass every 6.0 or 8.1 out there

If you can get away with that 1500 then keep it! Put the money that you save in maintenance into the boat. Remember, its way cooler to pass people on the water than it is on the road on the way to the boat launch!

I like that... I need to get away from the power concept on the road and stay focused on the boat. Winter time gets me stir crazy. Too much time to browse ebay and Craigslist.

Until next winter, I've talked myself into keeping my truck and quit browsing.

Thanks for all the advice.

agree with OP, he needs to keep what he has. Looks much better than the others, can be modified as/if desired, and at the end of the day, probably all around better service of the need.

To remind everyone my truck is an 08 1500 ext cab ltz 115k miles. Local guy wants to trade an 04.5 lly duramax 2500 109k miles ext cab same trim level. I've always had white so the color is not in my favor. Only mods are efi live and 4" exhaust. Says it gets 20 mpg.
I have a cobalt to make up for my truck's crappy mpg. I drive 126 miles a day for work x4. I was driving twice that. Main reason for the cobalt. I'm tired of having a vehicle set 90% of the time. Doing the math selling the cobalt, not paying taxes and insurance, I will be even with the additional cost of diesel. What's your guy's thoughts??
My cons are the color and older style vehicle.

Big pro is getting rid of the diesel itch. Also books for more.

I think the 20 MPG is BS......I put 170K miles on a stock 2003 duramax crew 2wd and never saw 20 MPG. Shocker was that I put more money in fuel in that truck over the 8 years than I paid for the truck! Keep the Cobalt, you do not want to fund commuting in the diesel and essentially destroy the truck in short order.
