for what it was the turbo tbird was kind of a fun car.
Little tricks like a boost controller mod, ramp up the timing, free up the exhaust, and stuff those hood scoops full of ice to chill the charge cooler put it in the 240hp range. I even bottled fed one for a customer. Mine ran low 13's in the qtr, and with the speedo disconnected she'd hang with the Vette's on top end. I certainly loved that car, even after 2 turbos, 3 clutch disks, and who can forget those killer floor mats that would slide up and lock the throttle wide open when you least expected. Long live the Turbo Coupe!! Buck, Ford touted the F150 Eco's fuel economy pretty hard. Read any of the their ads, it's there in black and white. My mom drives an Eco MKT, it sucks fuel too. Great power, but your not gonna win over many tree huggers at 20mpg. Where as the new Dodge and Jeep "3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine, featuring 28 mpg" will tow your boat and have the local hippies admiring your eco consciousness.. |

Have 39,000 miles on our Eco right now. The damn thing better not let me down. This coming from a 2003 Ford 6.0 diesel victim. Buck I personally think the trucks are getting too complicated and it is going to hurt their long term reliability.......open the hood on any new truck, can't see most of the motor and certainly can't see the ground anymore! |

The 1500 Diesel is a neat idea but that 3.0 diesel hasn't been bulletproof in other models so I think the jury is still out on that one. |
A Ford frame, a Chevy Allison Trans, a Dodge Cummins engine and you would have a truck !

I have a 2013 ecoboost, max tow, 157" wheelbase, 3.73 gears. Only made one long trip with it so far and it was to Norris lake in Tennessee, anyone who has traveled from Cincinnati to Tennessee on I-75 will tell you it is anything but flat.
Boat and trailer = 7500 lbs 4 adults = 700 lbs All of our gear, food, drinks -500 lbs I locked out 6th gear on the trip and the once on the highway the truck never downshifted out of 5th. Take any other gas truck and you would be running 4-5000 rpms on some of the steep inclines, that is where the ecoboost shines, it makes all of it's torque at 2500 rpm's. Hand calculated mpg was 10.4. I only have 26.000 miles so I can't speak to longevity but I hope it lasts, I can say that I had a 2005 F150 with the 5.4 previously and it is a night and day difference between the 2. |
How many hrs does it have?
IF your around 150hrs I would rebuild the heads, and at 300hrs I hear the whole motor needs to be rebuilt. Also the turbo should be done every 60hrs. |
2012 here that I bought used with 34k. Have almost 60k on it now. I don't mind the mileage because the truck runs so well. Someone said it runs like a small diesel which I agree with. I hate the constantly shifting gas V-8's. They are very nice on the highway and respond like a turbo should.
All that being said, I am thinking about trading to a 2014 towards the end of this year. I will look for the same truck with less miles. Platinum 4x4. |
