High mileage EcoBoosts?
I have loved having my EcoBoost, great for every day driving and towing my Sunsation a handful of times a year. My truck is a 13 with nearly 50k.
I'm curious, how are they holding up with high mileage? My original plan was to order a new one or buy a lower mileage one when I hit around 75k. But....I love the truck and I'm pretty tempted to keep it to something like 150k since it's been so great. I'm a little concerned about keeping a vehicle that long though. Thoughts? |

Friend of mine has an '11, it spit a rod out and fried both turbos at 88k miles. Serious cash out of pocket as it was out of powertrain warranty. He loved the truck, until he didn't. Definitely an engine I'd buy a service contract on if 150k was the goal.

What oil do they recomend? Are the turbos brg hsgs water cooled?

Trade for the 5.0....im hearing lots of issues with them as well. I had a 11 eco fx4 - ended up trading it on a left over 12 2500 Cummins that I got a great deal on

My sons best friend purchased a 2014 last fall, stepping down from a 2500 Dmax. Last month they towed two Polaris side-by-sides on a trailer, loaded the bed with firewood, and drove three hours through the mountains of WV to their cabin. On the interstate it only averaged 7.5mpg running 70-75mph. On the back roads that jump to 8-9mpg. My son said it was all Boost, and no Eco. Turbos screaming all the way they claimed. He helped convince his friend to buy that truck, who's now saying "Wow I could of had a V8...."

Does he think a V8 would have done significantly better if it was all upper RPM in the mountains for some reason?

Any 90* V6s have issues with ballance so sooner or later it gets to them. 60* V6s are a bit more naturaly ballanced. In line 6es are naturally ballanced heard they are making a come back. Dont know if ford is still using leaf chain for thier over head cam V6s instead of double rollers but the silent / leaf chains along with hyd tensioners is aa issue. |
