Hi 33 Outlaw , if you get list dtc s diagnostic trouble codes , we can help / turbo vanes seizing from egr soot or actuator gets worn on hi mile apps / we run a 6.0 in overdrive grossing approx. 30 000 , so don't think tow haul rev hell out of motor is necessary , use tow haul for engine brake to stop slow down , auto zone used to do code reads for free or if u have a mechanic buddy /

You have one of two things going on. Its either the turbo is sticking at its over boosting, then the pcm is derating the truck. This can be fixed with by cleaning the rust and corrosion off the unison ring and vgt vanes in the turbo. The turbo has to come apart but its not a major deal. Or, your oil temp is getting to hot. This will also kick it into derate mode on heavy pulls. If this is the case the oil cooler is clogged and its going to take some work. I would have it checked for codes and possibly monitor the boost and oil and coolant temps while your loaded. I'm sure its one of the two. And you cant go wrong with a sct on a 6.0!

Thanks guys, this truck just turned 70K so its probably the most babied truck around, the trans & oil temp gauges show normal readings when it happens.

Edit: the egr thingy was changed out at about 50K

I have an 07 6 liter. 50k on it. Cleaned the turbo at 40 and now I have to do it again. The latest Ford calibration sweeps the vanes so it helps from getting stuck but it hinders fuel mileage also from other changes. The issue is the cast iron side of the turbo rusts and the vanes get stuck.

Take it off, clean it really well and reinstall.

I wouldn't recommend any performance mods, this motor likes to lift the heads.

When you say it is going into limp mode, is the red wrench light coming on/ flashing? if so it could be the oil cooler, if the oil temp gets out of a certain perimeter compared to the coolant temp it will derate the truck. A plugged oil cooler can cause this. I have replaced quite a few of them for this issue.

The best thing to do if you suspect it to be the oil cooler is monitor the engine coolant temp and engine oil temp with a scan tool. Try to duplicate the problem up hill and see what the temperature differential between the oil and coolant. I don't remember the exact number between the two, I will try to look it up tomorrow.

If the turbo is not stuck and its throwing an over boost code it's usually a plugged ebp sensor and or pipe.
