Default Must have options for a trailer build.

Considering building a trailer through loadmaster out of Port Clinton,OH for my 353 fastech.

what are the must haves when building a trailer? I will not be in saltwater.

EOH disc brakes?
ladder to access the bow?
drive guard?

any thoughts are appreciated.

EOH, a spare with hub, tool box, and make sure the trailer works well for the boat ramp you use most. My local ramps are very steep and it’s always an issue with “stock” trailer setups for me

Axles far enough back for good tongue weight
EOH Disc Stainless
2 spare tires
14ply G Load Range tires
Wheels actually rated for the load
Triple 7k or 8k axles
Air Tight or Vault Hubs
Bright reverse lights

I've had two of their trailers and you won't be disappointed.

Yes,
Have you ever looked at how cheap and small trailer axles are? Chinese Bearings, seals, brakes, springs, shackles are a JOKE compared to even the rear of a 1/2 ton pickup.

8k come with a larger outer bearing which are prone to fail on the 6k and 7k.

You can also order the axles, torsion and leaf, with a lower rated suspension and still have the advantage of larger bearings and brakes.

Trailers control the load, and are more important than the truck. Unfortunately 90% of trailers out there are improperly, underbuilt junk.

EoH
All LEDs
Backup lights
Night loading lights (trailer outline)
2 spares WITH bearing/hubs, mounted opposite each other which are mounted about 10 feet aft of the winch stand, to act as centering guides in a current or breeze (cover with white tire covers)
2 piece winch stand with V-catch
Twin top opening trailer toolboxes, with the lids mounted at least 6-12” above the trailer frame

If you want to get fancy, twin triangular lifts in front of the front axle so if you ever drop all the axles off a ramp, you can drag them back up.
If doing a bow ladder, make it removable.

Many, many great suggestions so far. Bow ladder has made trailering our boat a much better experience. I would add: have stern strap mounts positioned so the straps do not bind on the trim tabs. Also proper bow strap mount.
