I think when you lightly pump the pedal it unlocks the torque convertor. Gives you about 300 RPM and a little extra pull.

you may be right...ill have to hook up my HPTuners and do a log and see whats going on there...never thought about it till you mentioned that! :)

Actually, the torque converters are PWM, not like the old style, where they looked at the brake pedal and they were either on or off, there's always some kind of percentage of slipping going unless wot

I too am looking, for a new vehicle. I have a 2013 Yukon XL with about 160, 000 miles. Besides an everyday driver, I haul my 29 foot Velocity VR 1. I also transport two or three Irish Wolfhounds to dog shows Vet etc. A Suburban oy Yukon XL sized vehicle is ideal for me. Trying to decide if I want the Duramax Diesel. Does anyone have experience with a Yukon or Burban with the Duramax.

Padraig,

The 6.2 gas is actually rated at more HP, 420 vs 401, with only a couple fewer ft/lb of torque.

Just sayin’…

Thanks. Brad.

Scratch that. I was thinking VS the 6.6L gas engine. Nevermind.

Thanks. Brad.

I just got a 2024 Silverado HD with the 6.6 gas/Allison 10 spd. I haven't towed with it yet but so far I'm very happy. I'm coming from 2 previous Duramax trucks. The Allison is very smooth and the the engine is plenty peppy. I got the Z71 Sport package with the LT trim. Very comfortable truck. It comes with 34" tall tires (275 65 R20). It feels bigger than my 2016 did. It has the snow plow prep package which makes it a bit more stiff than my previous truck. But not too bad. Parked next to my buddies 1500, mine towers over his.

So i havent checked with my laptop but i did a quick and dirty test with my shifter handle.....cruising along in 6th gear at 65 this morning (checked with shifter lever moved to Manual mode then back to drive) i twitched my foot...the rpm went up about 5-600 and i switched the lever to manual to see what gear its in....it did drop it one gear down to 5th...so its not the TC locking/unlocking....in my case anyway. I do remembr my old dually with the 4L80 probably locking/unlocking the TC with the brake pedal tap though....

the 6.6 gas is a game changer imo. Our race truck has that engine and even with the 6spd it tows a 9500lb boat on a steel trailer great....we're talking long hauls too.
My next personal truck will be a 2500 6.6gas/10spd. The downsides to owning a 3/4 truck have become nil for my use
