Guys,

I went into the shop this morning, thinking I’d get the hubs disassembled and cleaned up, ready to install when the time came. But I’ve hit a snag…,

I can’t get the outer bearing out. I’ve confirmed the bearing itself is ~.150” larger in diameter than the opening I have to get it out through.

There appears to be a reducer ring/spacer installed to fit a specific size Bearing Buddies:

Anybody ever seen this? How would one go about getting this out? Just press it all out brome the back at once? Bearing, race, reducer and all?

Thanks. Brad.

Powerboatr,

Yup. Upon suggestion from the rep at Heritage, I stacked the hub on some 1-2-3 blocks here at the shop and pecked it out with a slug of brass.

(Pay no attention to the mess on the lathe )

I’ve since driven the old races out and the new ones in. When the rest of the parts get here, and I get the axle install done, I’ll move forward with installing the bearings and seals and getting the hubs installed.

Thanks. Brad.

Guys,

As it turns out, pretty much everything I have doesn't match up with these new axles. So, Heritage is sending me new hubs/rotors along with the new brake assembly parts. I'm gonna end up with entire new axle assemblies, less now leaf springs, for the cost of raw axle beams. At what point should I start to feel guilty?

Thanks. Brad.

They going to powder coat it purple too ? joking

This whole thing is kinda crazy, but not rare. Some, too many ???, project's run into crap like this unfortunately.

Why doing things in season can really bite you in the azz. Good thing you tackled this early in season /pre-season.

Well, wishing you are now on the correct road to finishing.

SB,

I'm getting fairly familiar with the snowball effect. I'm just glad he's sticking it out with me and not just telling me to grab my ankles and my credit card.

I think we're on course to get it all back together this week, depending on how long the transit takes. I'm not sure what's left that could possibly not match up at this point.

Thanks. Brad.

you should feel guilty now. I usually have to buy three versions of the same part to find out none fit and now I cant return them. this is why I have so much stuff filling the shop. feel blessed they are helping you out on this and hopefully this is the last of it.
