Not a valid comparison :( You are comparing a 6-cyl with a V-8. Components have to be larger to handle the higher stresses the longer stroke and bore, require to get the same displace with 2 fewer cylinders, put on the rotating group. :D Sure looks convincing though doesn't it. :drink: |
Re: Pull Rig Poll
If your going to drive it at all other than working/towing, get the GM. Nicest interior, D-Max most fun to rod around the city, Allison is awesome, and yes lowest step in height.
Factor in how quiet it is also. When mine is warm and idling from 10' away it's quiet like a gasser, flat out amazing. Quiet going down the road also. It rattles some when the pilot injection shuts off at 2500RPM. Though if your hearing that, you've got your foot in it pretty good and begin to listen for it. :D It's just the best combo for an "enjoy it all the time" vehicle of this nature. I am very, very impressed so far with my 04.5 LLY Crew. |

Re: Pull Rig Poll
Well guys, I just took delivery of my 05 Duramax crew cab last night, and got a total of 3 hours on it before the rear main seal puked. 1 week for parts, 1 week to replace. So, now i'll be lucky to have it by Christmas. O, and the beauty of having some kid pulling the tranny out, and tearing into the engine on my BRAND new expensive truck. ugh.......
needless to say, i'm sick... it was sooooooooo nice on the trip home, thought I was really going to like it. Now i'm bout ready to tell them to keep it... :( |
Re: Pull Rig Poll
Well, if you had an '03 or early '04 6.0 Ford you could have played than game every other week until they finally bought it back from you.
D-max troubles are an exeption not the rule. I did alot of intense research myself before I got one. I gave mine an easy 1000 miles...then changes all the fluids and filters. Been heavy footed with it ever since...and it runs better every day! I've towed my 353 locally and a 35 fountain 1000 miles. h2o, 2nd gen D-Max (Jan '04 and later build/ code LLY) Crew Cab. |
Re: Pull Rig Poll

As far as the medium class, I said Detroit isn't in the running. My guess would put it between Cat, Isuzu and International, probably with Isuzu leading the game. |
Re: Pull Rig Poll
Beat the He!! out of my Cummins on a daily basis since day 1 for 40k miles and not one problem to date :D
Have towed just about every thing from a 16' Donzi to a 42' OL and no trouble at all in any way.... |

I reallllly love my Duramax now!
Got my new work truck today.. F250 4x4. 5.4 Gas..9200GVW It's an absolute friggin DOG. I know what it is, but I expected it to have more.. Power resembles that of an electric golf cart. Other than that, it's a very nice truck. The Chevy chassis handles the weight much better (Turns, stops, stability) Ford has the edge with turning circle... |
Re: Pull Rig Poll
Diesel is the only way to go, those 5.4's do suck in a 3/4 ton truck. You should have talked to the boss about a diesel, then you could have hooked up the chains and see who out pulled who :D  Jeff

Re: Pull Rig Poll
You mean like this? This is my lowly Chevy 6.5 pulling a crew cab 4x4 Powerstroke pulling another crew cab dually Powerstroke that was hooked on to a toybox. Couple years ago at Glamis, but it's still one of my favorite pics. :D

Just thought I'd share..
Hey guys.... I thought I'd share some opinions on the new Ford.
PLEASE keep in mind that I don't intend to insult anyone here... This is all honest info. I've had the F250 Fx4, pictured above, for 1,000 miles. I drive it back to back with my 2500 HD Chevy. Both are 4x4, 9200lb trucks. Yes, the Chevy has much nicer seats (both trucks are leather) and interior layout. Chev has about 4" more rear cab space. The Ford trans works alot like the Allison in my Chevy. My only complaint is that it is slow going into gear/switching gears. The trans is very busy, but I'll chalk that up to the truck having a golf cart engine.. The Ford is down right dangerous on the highway! Now, some will say I drive too fast, but that's just me. I almost shiz'd my pants on the FL turnpike on Friday! The suspension on the Ford is so stiff that the truck will virtually go out of control when crossing bridges on the pike... Now I like to cruise at 80-85 on the highway. 65 mph is better, but the front end is still way loose on bumps. I think the added weight of a Diesel will help, but that can't possibly make it good. The looseness is so bad that I'd never recommend that someone buy a truck like this... Yes, the tires are properly inflated. The Chevy is MUCH more stable at speed. I have always been a Chevy man, but I actualy looked forward to getting this Ford for a change. I am quite disappointed... :( No I'm not bashing Fords guys... These are just my observations from driving both the Chevy and Ford, sometimes both in the same day. |

Just drove my rig back from FL with Ottis311's F-350 Power Stroke... Only way to go.
Comfort??? It's a fu%king truck if I want comfort i'll get back into a Porsche. The ford was on rails pulling the rig. F-350 Dually Diesel is the next move. |

Re: Pull Rig Poll
Tim G,
Sorry you have "so" many problems with your Ford. My E350 PSD with 241,000 miles with original trans still runs perfectly. My F350 Dually has almost 80,000 miles and runs perfectly. I usually drive 80-100 mph with no bounce or shakes. I still think all of the '05 pick ups are all good. Mark Smith |

Re: Pull Rig Poll
GLH,
You won't go wrong. I just picked up an 04 crew cab F350 4x4 PSD dually because I've had such good experiences with the 97 F350 and the 01 F250 (both PSD) that I have (there both still running strong). |
Re: Pull Rig Poll
GLH,
I would highly recommend the ford dually it is a great truck. I have an 03 f350 4x4 crew cab. And love driving it. It just got back from florida towing a 43 black thunder down there and towed it great. |

Not sure if it plays on the 'puter, may depend on the windows version you run. On my plasma, that DVD played kinda blurry, cause of the wide screen function. We'll figure it out. My son's the best on this stuff. BTW, give me a buzz soon, time for a bite and a pop!:drink:

Re: Pull Rig Poll
I have had GREAT luck so far with my 02 F-350 with 7.3 PSD.
But I do not like what I hear and read about the 6.0. Just had a customer in last week with an 05 King Ranch F250 that is having SURGE problems and has had it to the same dealer I use twice now. Some good ones, but still some problems. A buddy in Florida has had the turbo replaced and two head gaskets on his 04 model 6.0 PSD. An International dealer told me that Ford came to them and told them to design a new motor that is more powerful and lighter in weight than the 7.3, and cheaper. I do not know this to be true, but he seemed to know what he was talking about. He said that all the interal components were weaker than used on the 7.3. He also said that UPS tested the 6.0 and said "NO". If I were buying new today it would be the Duramax. The perfect truck to me would be the Ford chassis, with the Dodge Cummins engine, with the Allison Trany. As you can see they all have their strengths in my book. I hope Ford gets it right with the 100% complete and total redesign they plan for I think 2007! I won't be trading before then anyway. Good Luck |
Re: Pull Rig Poll
I am totally bias so my thoughts probably mean sh!t. I own an 01 F350 Dually although I have the gas V10. I just drove to New York from Chicago and pulled back my new 30ft Scarab and it was 80mph all the way home for 780 miles, not a whimper, nothing. I Love my Fords and wouldnt buy anything else. But thats just me. A chevy or Dodge in my driveway HAAAAAA, aint gonna happen jack. I think you Dodge lovers should write a thank you letter to Lee Ioccoa for saving dodges a22 in the 80's :drink: :drink: :drink:

Re: Pull Rig Poll
Some rumors I've heard about Ford and Cummins, could be urban legend?
I dont know if any of these are true, they are just things I remember hearing in conversation. Ford owns a controlling share in Cummins........ Ford has been rumored to be putting the Cummins into their light duty trucks but is afraid to allienate Powerstroke loyalists........ Ford/Cummins would not let Doge build a crew cab as long as they wanted to use a Cummins so that it would have the market advantage in these types of trucks....... Thats why the new four door Dodge is small compared to the interior of a Ford. Its basically an extra cab with two small doors........ Dodge has been rumored to be working on a Mercedes diesel to put into their trucks so that they would no longer have any restrictions or ties to Ford/Cummins but are also afraid to allienate Cummins loyalists....... I also heard from a close friend of mine that went to Diesel Tech school that the parts in a Cummins make anything that Ford or Gm have in their motors look like toys. They are hands down bigger, stronger and better built. That doesn't mean they are faster, have more hp, tow better or any of that crap, but its a known fact that they are built more from a platform of heavy duty diesel motors than from automobile engines like the other two manufactuers. |

how bout a ford with a cat.. that would be sweet. i wish someone would get it right...
