I had a 2002 Suburban 3/4 ton with 4WD and all the bells and whistles and was planning to tow a Formula SR357 that weighs aeounf 11K plus trailer. I towed boat once with that car and decided either it or I wasn't up to the job.

The boat/trailerlength and weight just felt totally out of control behind that vehicle.

Love the Burb--best car I ever owned--just not for towing my boat.

Went from the Suburban to the Ex. I even get the GM discount so the $$ was a big difference but no comparison in the trucks. The Ex is a REAL TRUCK and the Sub is a big SUV. When comparing engines and hearing opinions, remember that Ford went from the old 7.3 to the new 6.0. Big increase in power and performance plus better idle and it's a "clean diesel" so rarely do you even get a whiff of exhaust. The only time you get anything annoying is at the fast-food drive-thrus. A v-10 would be a big mistake.

I've towed an Apache 41 with mine and I wouldn't want to go more than 100 miles with is but a Cig 35 tows like it's barely even there. I pulled a 4500 lb trailer from Ohio to Hilton Head and ran 75 the whole way up and down the mountains in WV & VA. Didn't even downshift.

I have a 2001 Ford Excursion Limted 4x4 Diesel. Love it!!!!

Am actually thinking of getting rid of it at the present becasue I think a dually crew cab would be more useful for me. The Excursion has the 2nd row buckets and TV's - happy I got it that way, but I' single and only have four people in it rarely, l;ike when we go skiing. Has 48K on it and drives like a dream and will pull a horse trailer no problem. Installed better springs and Ranch shocks - with triple mount up front.
