Ideas for mounting GPS in Velocity/TBred
I'm having a hard time finding a good place to mount my GPS. It's currently a NAVMAN 5500, but I'm open to different models that would fit better. Where did you mount your GPS on your Velocity? And what brand/model?
Right now it's mounted on top of the dash, using the mount holes for the compass (that didn't work...). But it looks fugly up there without a windshield or fairing to hide it...
Thanks, Jim

I have a 260 Velocity and use a 176C Garman, very small unit but seems to do the job. Like you, I tried the dash but did not work very well. Mounted over the factory hole for depth gage (top right of dash) and works out well. Only problem is where to remount depth gage.

I have a Garmin 188C. It has a medium sized color screen which is very nice. Since I am tall and rarely look through the windsheild on my VR-1, I mounted it on the dash centered with the wheel. This would not work for a shorter person but after two years I really like it there.... it is almost like a "heads up display" in that I dont have to move my eyes to see the moving map.... which is nice when cruising at 60mph on unfamiliar parts of the intercoastal.

Thanks for the replies, guys! CAVelocity, that's where I mounted mine, but without a windshield it looks a little goofy. But I love the "heads up" qualities. In Galveston Bay, you have to use a GPS a lot. And at speed, I don't want to look too far away from dead center...

I like mine, but the screen cracked and went dim on me. Navman has it now, fixed under warranty and upgraded my software. Wiped out my waypoints, though...
Rippem, wish I had the room you have to mount it. That looks great!
