These #6 drives were canary yellow when I got them. What a pain in the ASS to get all that yellow paint off. Gimbals are epoxy primered and painted , need some seals and bushings from merc and they will go back together, still have rigging to do on engines , then to the dyno!:evilb:

We should be dyno-ing soon. Hip Hip HurAAA! I'm thinking if they run as good as they look, we'll be in great shape!

Velocity Vector 03-25-2013 11:09 AM

Playing around today trying to make since and my self feel better about building a boat from a bare hull. So here's what I did. I added up the cost of the boat and the parts I'm using so far. As in New VS Used / Rebuilt. No labor cost is in this senerio. This is just the bare hull and the parts.

Cost of new is if I bought a new hull and New same parts I have so far
New $265,000.00 and this is a consecutive number.

Then I added up what I actually paid for the boat and parts I have so far. Shopping around waiting and finding deals. Now some of my parts are new of coarse and some are like new used and some had to be rebuilt to new.
Used my cost is $89,500.00 and this is an actual cost I paid.

Then I got the % I paid New VS Used like new

$89,500.00
$265,000.00

33.8% so this means I have saved 66.2% over the cost of New VS Used like new!

OK lets get back to work I feel a little better now. Time and patience mostly patience.

Picked up a couple high backs today, we will recover these when we figure out our interior color. This is the look I'm after when we get there Bob. A 4 seat design cockpit. This OE has tons of room in it and Id like to keep it that way. This is a Cig converted to the Gladiator style cockpit. I really like the steps.

Donzi Brother hooked me up today on these three 2 stage water pumps. never know when you might need a spare!

Picked up few items today.

2- Eddie Marine polished Billet Vents. 17 3/4" X 2 1/2" for the side or back of race hatch

4- Eddie Marine Blue anodized Billet Vents 17" X 3" for the front of race hatch

2- Eddie Marine yellow anodized steps 13 3/4" X 3" For center step

2- Eddie Marine copper anodized grab handles 8 3/4" Where ever

1- Spargi Silver Steering Wheel It's a 13.8" diameter 3 Spoke

As you can see we will have a rainbow of colors, but we ain't gay! Also picked up these footrest for the passenger seats so we're thinking the 2 back seats need to go on each side of the cockpit instead of beside the steps in the middle so the footrest will be on each side of the cockpit and not honked out in the middle of the cockpit as shown in the last diagram design.

Those aren't my engines just a reference to mounting the water pumps but I bet they really sound wicked. Did you notice the twin turbos sitting on the back of them?

Picked up a Garmin 740S today I stay lost without a GPS. We will dash mount this somewhere.

Hint ---- when you buy a set of SSM #6's make sure they have the tie bar saddles with them. New they are over 2K each! Ouchy. We found these used but still pricey.

Water pumps fit and the Stellings headers are huge. Will know in a couple days what hatch we will need either a raised race hatch or a flat with scoops still debating.

Shoulda gone surface drive probably woulda been at 90. Not being rude your boat is real nice but that's fn slow for 850hp aside something ain't right thats 1700hp in a cat

It will probably do 90 or 100 anyways

I don't take you being rude, all input is welcome. S-drives were not in my budget. 70 MPH is probably a conservative number. :)

I been looking for awhile for just the right truck for the Cat and finally found one.
Make: Dodge Dually Mega Cab 4x4 Laramie package.
Model: Ram 3500
Mileage: 62,800
Engine: 5.9 Cummins Diesel
All stock except for the 2" front end leveling kit on it. Bed cover. I have ordered a 70 gal. wedge style tank for the bed. Seems to get 18-19 GPM empty.

Running into a hurdle , the shortest drive shaft is 10'', the dual stage sea pump is hitting the bulk head and still can't get the 10'' shaft in.
Even it the shaft fit, the sea pump would be unserviceable.

We went to mount the starboard engine , the outer engine stringer was soft in 3 spots, did a test hole , was wet , Going to cut it out and build a new one , should take a day to rebuild, the other stingers are good

I see enough material there to cut, machine and weld them shorter by an inch or two. Although that doesn't look like that's enough.

Velocity Vector 06-21-2013 08:07 AM

We just moved the sea water pumps from the front to the side to allow enough room for the drive shafts. This cat was set up originally for crash boxes witch are a couple inches shorter. All's good now.

Before machining
This is what I'm making the exhaust trim rings out of. I have 3 of these Aluminum 5.75 ID X 7.75 OD X 2" Wide.
I plan on cutting 2 of them in half for the 4 outside transom rings 1" thick.
The other one in 4 pieces 1/2" thick for the inside transom.

After machining
Finally got my trim rings machined for the 5 1/2" cannons. We beveled the outer and inner of the outside rings, drilled 6 holes on the inside of the outside rings so no bolts will show from the outside of the rings and inserted Heli Coils in the holes so the aluminum won't strip out. Now they are off to be anodized

Bob has Finished the engine compartment on the Cat Project. She looks like a naked lady waiting on chromed transplants. There is a difference in a bilge that's been painted and a bilge that's been painted right. The time, patience, and work that went into this is bar none as nice as it gets. Thanks Bob!
