Need Opinions......

I am having the complete cockpit vinyl (and engine cover) recovered very soon. I have a 2003 260. The Hull is solid white (no graphics) and the cockpit is currently white, red and black. I was looking at some of the newer offshore boats (not necessarly Velocity) and I notice a lot of the newer boat builders are using the "carbon fiber" pattern vinyl. I had originally though about just doing the black and red accent and insert pieces with "carbon fiber" vinyl and just doing the white in a traditional vinyl pattern.

So I am looking fo some opinions..... Should I jsut use the carbon pattern vinyl for the red and black parts and do the white in a traditional vinyl? Or should I go all out and do the complete cockpit with the carbon pattern?

Here is a link to the interion pieces. http://site.activesportsunglasses.co...rior_work.html

Also I am considering adding a 4th color to the interior. I was thinking of doing a Carbon fiber silver in between the red and black areas. Currently there are white inserts between the red and black, so basically changing that to silver.

My ultimate goal is to change out the swim platform from the fiberglass one to an anodized red aluminum platform and also having a full vinyl wrap done with red, black and silver graphics.

I need you opinions asap. I need to make my decision and get this stuff into the shop asap in order to insure it will be done by early spring.... Thanx in advance guys!!

One of the reasons I am looking to switch it out is it is pretty banged up. It looks like the previous owner hit pretty much everything they could with it........... There is quite a bit of spidering and some pretty good chips..........

cabin fever 01-05-2011 09:52 AM

I think putting some carbon fiber in would be cool.

I'd also change the "V" on the sunpad to red, with Carbon fiber outline.

Ditch the big strip of black on the rear bench, and make the Red and carbon fiber pop out a little more.

should be pretty cool when its done. good luck

Carbon Fiber to Replace the Black sounds like a great plan to me.
I like Orange better than Red when used with Carbon Fiber.
It will look nicer eitherway if you ditch the black...IMHO

low_psi 01-05-2011 11:38 AM

Well now you guys have me thinking........... Maybe get rid of the black and replace it with Carbon Silver.......Hmmmm.. Keep the ideas coming!!

mikes280 01-05-2011 11:57 AM

have you ever thought about changing the white. mine is white and i and going to go back with a real light gray plus the strips or something as the white seems to show everything that touches it

Only problem with going to a grey is the entire boat is white. Mine has no graphics so a grey interior would look out of place on a solid white boat...

Pat McPherson 01-05-2011 01:21 PM

I'd go with carbon fiber gray, blue and orange.
Then add some stripes to the boat to match.
TMone here on OSO did Grey carbon fiber in his all white 24' Pantera and it looks great...

low_psi 01-05-2011 03:02 PM

I like the red. I have spent a decent chunk of change adding red LED lights through out the boat and the red anodized gauge bezels and wheel... Plus my last boat had a grey and blue interior.....

Cool.
Then white with red and carbon fiber interior.

Thnaks alot..............:lolhit:

Now you have me thinking about changing to completly...........

Although I do like the blue silver and orange idea, I may go silver/grey red and black.... hmmm.......

low_psi 01-06-2011 01:04 PM

I decided on replacing all white areas with carbon silver/grey. Everything that was Black will now be done in red carbon. Everything that was red will now be black. So it will be primarily Silver with Major accents in red and the smaller accents in Black. I picked out a cool graphic for the side of the boat from racelinedigital.com that is a tribal flame in primarly red with silver shadows. The Velocity logos on the boat are in black so all of the graphics on the outside should tie in nicely to the interior.

Oh Deere 01-06-2011 01:40 PM

I agree with your choice to go with one major color and two secondary colors. Too often people try and go with 4+ costrasting colors and it just doesnt look right when it is done. An exception to that seems to be when going from shades of gray to black, or blues. There is another color between White and the Silver carbon fiber, called Pearl. There is also a Charcoal color that is between Black and Silver. If you want a chart, I can e-mail one to you.

we are going to need pics when it is done.sounds nice i was goingto tell you it did not have to be gray that was just a example i used because i am going to go away from the white when and if i change mine. Also i would go with a light gray so it want be to hot.

I actually had a physical chart @ home. That was my problem I had too much time to sit and think about it with the colors in hand..... I looked at the pearl carbon, but I didn't like the way it look in the sun. The charcoal color was a choice of mine with a different scheme. I am happy with my choices now. its all at the shop anyway so too late to change my mind....

Below are the 3 colors For the Interior.

Here are 2 of the designs that I think will look good on the hull. I have all winter to look around and decide. These two are from racelinedigital.com.

Great colors, always my choise. Had a 22' VELOCITY with light gray and red piping and a 26' Velocity with light gray, charcoal, and red. Easy to keep clean. Bob

low_psi 01-10-2011 09:09 PM

I am still a bit uneasy going with ALL Carbon patterned Vinyl. So once the shop gets all of the material in, they will call me so I can look at the material on a larger scale. I can lay it over a seat and get a better idea of what it will really look like. Even after that I will have him do one seat first so I can see the end result. This way if I don't like it (it will still cost me some $$) I can still change it before I am in it for thousands.... I am one of those maticulous bastards that likes to do everything myself and if not done by myself it is seldom up to my standards....... Most of my friends think I am slightly OCD (obsesive compulsive). Which is probably true......

I can't wait to see the first seat!! I am also going to have the seat pedistals powder coated Silver to match the new vinyl (currently they are white). I will also be having the front and rear grab handles powder coated the same translucent red as the gauge bezals and steering wheel. I will most likely respray the fiberglass lower side panels a silver color to match the vinyl as well. Currently they are white as they are in most Velocities.

mikes280 01-13-2011 07:24 PM

keep us posted sounds great the only thing you might thank about is doing the main color in a smooth vinly and all the rest in the carbon.

I had though about that as well. But I was looking at a lot of "Newer" offshore boats and they are using all carbon, so I figured it will give my boat a more modern look/feel. Not that 2003 is old..... But that is why I am going to look at the material laying on the seats to see if the grey carbon is overkill. Just waiting for the material to come in.

Andy 01-16-2011 10:15 AM

If VV is out there maybe he can post a few of my interior pix. I used white pearl carbon fiber vinyl with a smooth but printed on orange tangerine panels. Maybe see if you can find any of my previous posts showing the interior, I tried but couldn't except for the buckets in the itchy and scratchy thread.

Andy 01-16-2011 11:46 AM

try this old Ebay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/30-ve...-/200539271759

low_psi 01-25-2011 08:42 PM

Well I have had too much time to think about this interior. I dropped off all of the panels/seats a few weeks ago, however the material (vinyl) is not in yet so no work has begun which is leaving me time to change my mind, again..... Now I am thinking about not using black, instead using a charcoal carbon fiber vinyl. What do you guys think?

I would be concerned with why the vinyl is not in yet... takes 2 days... Spring in on the way..

The supplier did not have enough silver in a single piece/roll. We are just waiting for the silver, which is supposed to be in in the next few days.

cabin fever 01-26-2011 08:50 AM

I like the charcoal better then the black. Either way, I think it will look great. Can't wait to see finished pics.

spring is coming!:evilb:

The work has finally begun. It has taken a while, but by the looks of the first panel, still not complete, it will be worth the wait. Here is a before and after pic. The "after" pic is not quite complete. It still needs the red piping and needs to be put together, but you can see how much better the new vinyl looks compaired to the factory vinyl.

After:

low_psi 03-10-2011 09:56 PM

This panel is supposed to be 100% completed tomorrow. I will post a pic of it then. I have changed my mind on colors numerous times. I actually changed my mind on placeement of colors on seat and sundeck once again today. Everytime I change my mind it cost me more $$ as he keeps having to order in new material. But in the end, it will be well worth the wait, and extra $$ I have spent to make sure it is EXACTLY what I want.

low_psi 03-11-2011 05:07 PM

Here is a pic of the completed panel. We added red welt cord to the tops of each panel. The two screws are not seen once the panels are in the boat. They will be covered up by the rear seat. This is going to completly change the look of my boat. I will be having the rear grab handles powder coated to match the charcoal vinyl and the seat bases will be powder coated to match the silver vinyl. (The picture shows the top of the panel as being real wavy.... It isn't. It must be the way the flash is reflectibg off of the carbon fiber pattern)

http://www.bradzgarage.com/velocity/panel.jpg

low_psi 03-11-2011 05:56 PM

I just noticed the welt cord needs to be trimmed for the top of the small cross panel by the speaker. I will make sure that gets done...

modvp 03-11-2011 07:10 PM

It looks really nice! I may consider doing that to my velocity 220 in the future.

I like looks good.

low_psi 04-05-2011 02:48 PM

Here is a picture of the back bench seat. The old cushions are pictured to compare the old with the new. (sorry for the grainy picture, my Blackberry is a POS).

http://site.activesportsunglasses.co...k_seat_new.jpg

mikes280 04-05-2011 08:57 PM

you make me jealous as this is what i want to do . They look killer i think you are going to be glad you did away with the white.

modvp 04-06-2011 06:57 AM

I agree, it looks great!

low_psi 04-06-2011 02:27 PM

I also had the arm rests (where the cup holers are) on the back seat covered with the silver carbonfiber. Before it was that white grainy plastic that always looked dirty.... In the picture the hole has not been cut for the cup holders yet. I will send them to the powder coater to get the same red that my gauges have. But currently they are inside the boat and it is still under wrap..... Damn it this Michigan weather!!!!

socalstone 04-07-2011 02:53 PM

Man that looks good. I'm in the same boat right now - trying to re-design my interior. red and black are my key colors with light gray. I like white though, so will keep that as my main. Looks great. love that side panel.

low_psi 05-05-2011 07:52 PM

Well, finally I was able to get a few parts picked up from the upholstery shop. He is still not done............. But the work he has done is very nice.
The weather has sucked anyway so it isn't like the upholstry is holding me up. I will have the other side panel and back seat installed by tomorrow.
I added a second set of Kicker 6.5s to the Front of each panel and eliminated them from under the rear seat. Obviously, as can be seen in the
picture I have some wiring still to do. I looks worse than it is. Just have to connect the speaker wires and the LED wires.
