Latest upgrade, trashed the old ugly black rubber exhaust hose that was old anyway and replaced with some polished Stainless Steel 4" OD Tubing and silicone coupler's/connectors. (Yeah, I know clamps are crooked.....:D, tomorrows another day)

SST tubing is an eBay find, 4.0 OD x 48" lg (actual diameter is slightly larger than 4", probably metric tube) at $58 free shipping, Silicone connectors are from HPS in Cali and I opt'd for the 4 1/8" ID due to tubing being slightly oversize, slight misalignment of motor and transom connections at about $30 each.
Install tip if using the silicone connectors, apply DAWN dishwashing soap (80%) mixed with water (20%) makes the install so, so easy. My length measured out at 14 1/2" long, that's from OEM exh. elbow to transom inside tip, I allowed for 1/4" clearance at each end so I cut my tubing at 14.00" lg, removed all sharp edges, soap'd up the 2 connectors, slid them onto the SST tube, placed the tube in position, slid the connectors over the OEM elbow and transom tip, set the tubing in place and applied 8 hose clamps and "DONE". I think for the little money spent for those not wanting to do custom exhaust systems, it's a winner for service life, looks and "YES" it does makes your exhaust a little louder as there's no rubber to soften the sound waves.... |

If anyone is thinking of adding tabs this winter, I see these Dana 1000s are back in the swap section.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...dana-750s.html I have Dana 1000s on my VR 1 and they work very well. Not mine and I don't know the seller. Seems like a good price. Padraig |
Just food for thought to keep me busy this winter...........Possible new project;
Dry Exhaust Pipes using OEM manifolds (still working on concept and challenges I'd be facing in doing this) Open for thoughts on this topic........................ |

The extensions are the cheapest and easiest way. No drawbacks mixing water into the exhaust further downstream. Really improves the sound. |

Excellent idea, thanks for the tag to the other linked page. I'm still in the concept stage wanting to stay dry "ALL" the way to the end of the tail pipe. I've done a little lay out work where water will feed into the riser but the stock riser water exits would be welded closed. Add a nipple at the top of the riser to have water exit into the tail pipe. Now here's where it gets interesting. The tail pipe: 4" OD SST w/a 3 1/2" ID SST exhaust pipe. What I'm saying here is, its a "TUBE INSIDE A TUBE", welded together (water tight) water dump holes at the end of the tails. Water from the blocked off riser would be fed into a bung welded onto the front section of the tail pipe filling the air space between the two pipes, Silicone coupler to secure tail pipe to riser,. I'm always open for opinions/thoughts/second guesses etc, etc...................... http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...m.jpg~original http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...q.jpg~original http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...h.jpg~original |
