Default transom removal

on my formula 206 I have got the engine out and I am going to remove the transom to get at the worm parts in the gimbal assembly. anybody have any tips on how to take the transom plate off, or what to look out for????? I am going to replace the shift cable also. Is there anything else I should replace while I have it apart???? thanks, Harry

I would suggest you buy a genuine Mercruiser Manual, if of course, that's the manufacturer of your outdrive.

It's a pretty straightforward removal. Just hope that it wasn't glued on with some 5200. It'll be a ***** to remove then.

Default Ok I got the transom plate off

I can see the nut on top and I can feel the loose arm I think the play is in the steering arm. my next question is when I loosen that nut how do I get the gimbal peice of the rod with the square grooves do I have to remove the whole gimbal ring or can I just take the bottom bearing off and tilt it so that I can remove it and inspect it. and then replace the warn parts. I just need to know the way it comes apart.
Thanks again you guys are masters
