Angry Problem shifting into forward/reverse

Was on the lake last weekend enjoying the day when after going through a no-wake zone I hit the throttle when engaged in forward. Heard a bad sound/grind and was then dead in the water. Engine was still running but I was not able to engage forward or reverse with the Bravo I. Cable and linkage appear ok. Dropped the gear housing and that looked ok. The u-joint also looks good. Have not yet looked at the shifter components in the driveshaft housing.

Any other ideas? Is there something I should look at towards the front on the driveshaft housing where the engine connects?

I say coupler too.

Usually, you can see the driveshaft
where it comes out of the transom plate,
and where it goes into the coupler,
start up the engine, see if the drive shaft
is turning, if not, spun coupler.
