My New Boat - Paint!

Well, I changed my mind. I think this is close enough to post for comments. Especially after Pat blasted me last night. :D

So, here are the changes we want to make so far. The orange to yellow fade needs to be MUCH darker...at least in the orange. The bow graphics will be stretched towards the bow to accentuate the length. And the orange stripe will be brought down onto the dash. The rest of the dash will be blue I guess. Right Pat?

We would also like to work in another green stripe. Really like that. What about maybe working in some red?

Cockpit will have white vinyl with carbon fiber blue combing panels and carbon fiber orange and yellow stripes in the tall panel on port side. Chrome bezels, blue and chrome shifters, blue wheel and stainless grab handles.

Cabin will have white leather with irredescent blue accent on top of the couches and brushed aluminum on the kitchenette and under the couches.

So, bring it on.

spilman 03-10-2007 07:13 AM

Very nice! What's the ETA? See ya @ the James run if not sooner.

Macklin 03-10-2007 07:29 AM

Should have it next month.

What about the AT logo on the sun pad. Should we do that in blue or orange and yellow?

spilman 03-10-2007 07:32 AM

I would do mostly blue, with a touch of yellow...but that's just me. I think the blue will stand out better on the white.

Macklin 03-10-2007 07:36 AM

We were also thinking of doing the sides of all the head rests in carbon fiber silver. But I'm thinking that may be a bit much. What do you guys think?

cosmic12 03-10-2007 07:50 AM

VERY NICE!!!! you are right bring some more color into the dash, remember you have 2 white hatchs that will be in the middle of the deck color, are you painting those? Looks perfect otherwise good job:cool: oh ya will there be logo anywhere?

Great questions! I need to defer to the master on that....Pat?

cosmic12 03-10-2007 07:59 AM

He will probly give you chit about the deck hatch but do you want a big white square in the middle of the blue and yellow?

Macklin 03-10-2007 08:06 AM

Pat has been totally accommadating to all of my requests so far. As he says..."we are a custom builder!"

Sydwayz 03-10-2007 08:20 AM

Macklin,

You definitely want the deck hatches painted. It sets off the whole boat.

I'd love to see the AT oval logo worked into the oval of the graphics on the deck, and then I would not put one on the sunpad. This would make those PR helicopter shots look great! Your sunpad might look blah right now, but the elongated headrests are not drawn in yet.

And I think doing the TOPS of the headrests in white vinyl, with carbon fiber sides will look very trick.

Macklin 03-10-2007 08:31 AM

Brian, great input. I'll run that suggestion past the commander.

Macklin, I think you're right on making the orange and yellow fade darker and bringing the graphics up towards the bow. Looks very nice so far.

Bringing in more accent stripes or colors in with green and or purple might make it pop some more, but I'd stay away from adding any red. Too much contrast.

Stay with Brian's recommendationa and put the AT logo on the deck, not on the sunpad.

You also might consider going with the longer head rests on the sunpad like the ones Pat used on his 33.

Have fun with it.

Steve

I think it looks good. The only suggestions...

1) Do the sides of the head rest in blue on all seats not silver… I would look very hard at the demo 33 interior. I think that is a nice white with blue accent interior. Silver would be too much in my opinion since you don’t have a lot of it on your boat.

2) Do the same blue on the sun pad on both the port and starboard side. I like how it looks on the port. Give it a little consistency and more color and it will bring it to life.

3) Paint the deck hatches...A must…

4) I would also do what Brian suggested and put the logo on the deck with the graphics. Would look choice…

I also agree on making the orange to yellow fade more pronounced. Until I blew up the rendering, I didn’t know it had orange at all…

Macklin 03-10-2007 08:52 AM

Clark, thanks again for letting Pat take me for a ride in your boat on a very nasty day!

I like your suggestion about doing the head rest sides in blue. The commander agrees.

Vyper340 03-10-2007 09:46 AM

I would also recommend that the transom is painted (I'm sure that is but it does not show). I like the idea of coloring the sides of some of the cushions! Also, it would be a good idea to put the AT logo on the windscreen, dash, sunpad, etc.

Some hot paint schemes these days have blue and silver integrated (swirl, tribal flame, etc). How would the given style look with blue and more silver (reduce the yellow to highlight and add color)??? Just a thought.

Vyper340 03-10-2007 09:47 AM

Oh yeah, add color to the dash wherever possible is also a good idea...

Macklin 03-10-2007 09:51 AM

Yes, the transom will be painted with a matching swim platform. We are thinking it will be a metallic cobalt blue similar to the Skyy Vodka bottle. Pat is sending us samples to pic the exact color.

Vyper340 03-10-2007 10:24 AM

That's sounds awesome! I like those metallic blues. They look really good in the sunlight!

PS - don't forget about some sort of ladder for the swim platform if it has not been considered.

Macklin 03-10-2007 10:42 AM

The swim platform will have a retracting stainless ladder built in. Pat said it can be mounted on the side, but I nixed that because of all the rafting we do. So it will be centered on the rear.

ACTIVESHACK 03-10-2007 12:35 PM

It looks great Macklin  I agree with a little more color on the dash. Narrow up the blue and widen up the orange on the deck and bring it over and down the dash. Maybe add a orange stripe on the port side on the sunpad and gunwale to accenuate the orange on the dash. Are you naming the boat ? If you are than you need to figure out where your putting the name then decide on location of the company logo. If no name on the deck than i would go with the other suggestions and put the logo on the bow for the helo shots like sydwayz said. Also painting the hatches is a must. Congrats :drink: We're all going to be waiting for the updated rendering so tell Pat to get busy :D

Macklin 03-10-2007 12:54 PM

Thanks Mark! That's exactly what we want to do...narrow up the blue and widen the orange. The commander didn't like the idea of the AT logo on the bow, but I would like to see a rendition of it before I make MY decision.

We have about decided on 'Sudden Impulse' as this was truely that for me. I still think I have lost my mind here. But...life is short!

slboatdrinks 03-10-2007 12:59 PM

Helo shot

Logo on bow.

ACTIVESHACK 03-10-2007 01:03 PM

I prefer the name on the deck versus the logo but i would want one or the other. With the name up there in the helo shots its no mistaking who it is. I like the "Sudden Impulse" but "Sudden Thunder" would be good too.

Macklin 03-10-2007 01:09 PM

I am documenting for all the benefits so the name has to be on the transom. I will have the local vinyl guy do it to match the color scheme. That way it can be easily removed or replaced as needed. I don't really want it duplicated eslewhere. I do want the AT logo in a pronounced location.

Because...I WILL HAVE THE FIRST AT IN HAMPTON ROADS!!

Macklin 03-10-2007 01:23 PM

SUDDEN THUNDER

Love it!

Anybody else have that name?

Ca$hed Out 03-10-2007 01:55 PM

Macklin - this looks great! A question...how hooked are you on the purple? I like the green a lot and you don't see that on very many boats. I would consider changing the purple accents to green and then take the current green accent and change that to a darker orange - this gets you towards the red you were thinking about without too much contrast on the yellow->orange fade. If you want to keep the purple, perhaps you swap it with the green and make it the secondary accent so the green becomes the primary? My $.02...looks awesome no matter how you do it - I love all the colors you picked!

Not hooked at all...I'm glad I decided to post this 'cause I'm getting some great suggestions.

Pat, get your guy working on OTH's suggestion. Want to see it.

cosmic12 03-10-2007 02:33 PM

SUDDEN THUNDER is very good. Are you doing the slideing door or the folding doors? Liner or not? A/C Gen? Would be neat to see the end of the orange curl in the center of the deck sweep down over the fairing on to the dash.

Macklin 03-10-2007 04:08 PM

Boat does not have a liner, but.....sliding door? I didn't know that was an option?? May be too late because they were already rigging the boat before I put my name on it.

cosmic12 03-10-2007 05:31 PM

oops:( ya there is a slider with the side entry. He has done them electric also. More room without the liner, good choice

excursion 03-10-2007 06:24 PM

I agree on the liner, more room in the v-berth. Really helps if you are going too stay on the boat alot.

Good looking boat Macklin, cant wait to see it.

I had a sliding door put on mine. The folding doors are easier to install but they can do the slider if you ask.

So far so good. They've done a few sliders but only one that was electric. I don't think you'll talk Pat into another one of them. A real PIA to install and maintain. Plus they are real slow. A friend of mine has one on his 38 Cig. and doesn't like it. Seems like it takes 30 seconds for the door to close.

Hummm....Pat?

camptappakeg69 03-11-2007 10:28 AM

Paint looks great, love the "sudden thunder" name.

But I don't like dark colors on the sunpad or seats.....to hot for me. had a blue stripes on my nitro, man that sh*t was hot in the sun:eek:

slboatdrinks 03-11-2007 06:21 PM

Nice Birthday present you got yourself Macklin.

Happy Birthday! :drink:

crb76 03-11-2007 08:02 PM

I second that... Happy Birthday Macklin!!!

chuckbeecher 03-11-2007 08:51 PM

I like the sketch..and I also like the paint on the 28 in the want-ads. I've been flipping back and forth and they appear to me to be very similar. On the bigger boat they are stretched out so there appears more open areas.
Kool colors!
