A 496 is not enough to move these boats! I do not want to hurt any feelings here but a speed boat that runs in the 60's gets boring real fast besides most new center consoles and some sea rays will run 60 mph. That is why I upgraded to a 525 and now I am moving up in size and speed. Test drive before you buy it. My 2 cents.... I love this boat but it is time to get in the 30+ size boat and run 85+

Well I know a little about that boat as I owned it for just short of 6 years. The boat just left for its new home this evening. It is a very clean 28 that I enjoyed owning. While I agree that the 28 is a big boat for a 496 it is still a great setup if you want a durable boat that is good on gas and very low maintainance. I put the CMIs on and other than a much better midrange and awesome sound I didn't see much out of them. The boat would run 63-64.

Hence the reason I ask about a 750 N/A. I think 75mph will get boring after a time. The ability to push it quite a bit faster for short bursts is all I want.....w/o stressing the boat. If I could fit and afford a 33 or 37 I would, but I cannot. And i will not buy some west coast low profile crap with a monster motor either.

It's HIGHLY unlikely you'll stress this boat, especially if you are doing your primary boating in inland lake water. I drove a Donzi ZX and a Sonic with Scorps in them prior to buying our Savage (I like twins) and wish that our AT had that Scorp setup, but both felt like driving a potato chip in comparison to the AT, and the rigging was dismal too.
The 350MPI's still did quite an admirable job in our boat. I liked the aggressive X dimension Pat had set up in our boat as well. The rigging was top-notch.
If I were to own another Savage, I'd still opt for twin small-blocks. Since Scorps are history, they'd be from Pfaff or Lingenfelter.
You won't regret owning one of these boats! We hope to have another.

Congratulations on the sale, I do hope the new owner takes the care you, obviously did. It is a very clean boat, & that is exactly what I'll be looking for. I'm not looking for a speed demon, as the MRS. is not real comfy with going real fast, but it's good to have the extra HP if needed.

I've been looking for a nice late model 28. I think they are all gone!

BTW... we ran the Jammin run and bach to Jordan Point on Sunday, with a stop @ Chippoaks, and never got fuel! Two 50 gallon tanks and had over 3/8 left; that's 200 miles running mostly @ 3500rpm's & over...not bad since most guys with 33's & 37's holding 160 gals+ were stopping for fuel! just an fyi on the sbc's
