We ended up finding it behind the panel in the storage compartment behind the TV, why on earth would it be back there ? would it not be easier to mount it under the dash ?

Pat started mounting them behind the dash in the past few years. However, they are sensitive to radio equipment, other antennas, GPS, compass, etc. That's why they are placed up in the gunwale where you found yours.

This was also before anyone knew the puck had a battery that would need eventual replacing. The newer models do not have puck batteries per Livorsi.

Mine was behind the dash up high close to the deck mounted on a L-bracket. Real easy to get too and change. The bracket was even powdercoated blue to match all the outside stuff

Remove the panel inside the cabinet under the Tv and it is back in there, kind of a pain but its in there.
