Winter Project
2 Attachment(s)
Well it's the time of year to get going on some winter projects. It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since we upgraded the 500's to 600's. So, it's time for rings, bearings, valve springs, valve job, rebuild lifters, paint bilge and a ton of other stuff.
Worked for a while tonight but it was hot as heck in my shed. What are you guys doing for winter projects? Start with both motors in the boat, running OK BTW. |
pulling mine out as we speak as well to do the bottom ends and maybe small blowers on top. good luck with your project.
|
Rick let us know how it goes. Interesting concept to put the little blowers on. Shouldn't take too much to make Audacity run in the upper 90's to 100.

I'm doing all new power for my 32 again. The engines came out last week and Im working on the new 850 blower motors now. I sure hope I can have them completed by spring.

First one out.

Pulled my motors today. Did leak downs on them and..............going to do complete rebuilds. Well, now I have something to keep me busy this winter.
|
Man, looks like alot of a/ts are going to be fresh this spring.
Flenner did you do the Chattanooga run with Eric? I wanted to go but I had already had some of the coolant hoses off the engines. He told me it was a blast. I seen your boat there when I picked up my 32 from getting the steering system on. NICE!! Im talking to Scott at Suncoast power boats about Rolling Thunder. Its a long shot because I already have two boats But I like it. Good luck with your builds. |

BTW you guys are very motivating. Looks like I'm going to get moving today instead of growing my azz on the couch watching football.

T What are the specs on your engines now? Can't remember. Should be a screamer.
But the leak numbers are at 2% to9% With these numbers im sure im going to keep the cylinders sealed up for another season. I will pull the cranks and do bearings for sure and have the cranks dbbl keyed for the blower hubs. I think im going to go back with solid cams and dry exhaust. Mooneyham 12/71 blowers with mag/teflon stripped rotors, boost retard boxes, 4 hp 950 blower carbs, offset ign system. This summer it would run 91 any time you push the throttles down. My wife said 93 but I wasnt looking at the gps that much. They were 625 hp. The new engines will be 850 hp. I hope to see 110 or 112. Im sure it will run out of boat before if will run out of power. I dont run them wide open all the time its just nice to know it will. No competion runs for me, just fun at the lake. |

Im moving slowly. One is almost done, and this one is mocked up so I can measure for pulleys and belt sizes. I sure wished I had next weeks lotto numbers!

I've got a lotta work to do. :lolhit:
How are all you guys doing?? |
Bearings don't look too bad from the pic, how many hours? are they aluminum back "P" bearings? I don't know what Merc uses. I use ACL coated by Calico in everything. Im might be rolling bearings into 2 HP500 carbed engines soon to get another year out of them and curious to see what they look like at 400ish hours.

Probably have 250-300 hard hours on the bearings so I'm changing them some other parts while the motors are out. |
