Griff, Jim at CP Performance doesn't think so and says I would benefit from them. They have there brand/model of 280/380. Yes, there dimensions are slightly different, but seem to be better built. SO! Who do I believe? The factory 12x12 tabs on there now SUCK.

280's would be better than the standard Bennett tabs on a 292 Formula but 380's would be overkill and possibly downright dangerous. There have been a couple members on this site that have added 280's. Check the Formula section.

So how are the 380's over kill and dangerous when Merc says that both 280/380 are for boats 31-40 feet? You obviously know something that I don't, but fail to explain there answer?

Physics. You do not have a 30' + running surface on a 292. 380's on a 292 is a trip and stuff waiting to happen.

He's in the buiness to move product..........many boats 3-4 ft longer than yours come with 280's from the factory......but its your boat so do as you please.....

I agree, and thought the same thing; but didn't call that out.
I could see 280s on there, no problem. But I agree that 380s. Ask this question in the Formula section, specifically asking what tabs folks have on their 292 Formulas.
Fortunately, Formula is still in business. You could also call the Factory and see what their thoughts are.

Wayne at Sunsation put 380's on the first F-4 then after running it a bit took 'em off and put 280 plates on. That's on a 43' (really a 38') boat. But I've seen 380's on a 20' Cig. You've got to be careful running a long tab on a short hull.

My Velocity 290 VR 1 has Dana hp 1000 tabs on it. They work very well, not too sensitive but still very responsive. They may be a good choice for a 292 Fastec. At 24 inches long they fall right between the 30 inch long 380 k tabs and the 19.25 280 k tabs.

When I was looking to install tabs on my 280 Velocity I called Velocity directly to see if i should go with the 280s or 380s. I was told that 380 was a lot of tab. I have 280s on my boat now and am very happy with them. A little bit of movement is really noticeable.

That is where the Dana hp 1000 is nice and ikely why my VR 1 has them. Lengthwise they are between the two.
