Yeah, Got the intierior all out, replacing alot of the headliner panels, putting in new wiring and overhead lights, took those moron air horns off the deck and patched that hole (was through bolted not just surface screwed on there) Redoing the cushions in the cabin and getting rid of the black and pink seats and side pads, Putting in a new floor (waiting for that to show up) ordered the Jessel valve train and new push rods and gaskets, new heli coil for the one bolt hole in the head that someone stripped out a little bit. Starting some of the airbrushing too, bought a new sand blasting or media blasting cabinet so i have been stripping brackets, parts, valve covers and cleaning all the bolts one by one for it so when it goes back together its perfect. Hell its an apache, it has to be perfect.
No excuses why it should not be perfect.
I have the time and the talent so im stripping it all down and doing it right

Sounds like it is coming along pretty well. The engine problem may have been a blessing after all. If it hadn't happened you would probably be running the boat like it was rather than doing this work. Now one project has become many and I can honestly say that I know how you feel. It will all be worth it in the end! Just don't forget to post pictures of the transformation. You know we all love watching projects come along.

Jayl13 07-17-2007 12:09 PM

Im still working on the interior, Have talked to Jessel about the rockers, I sent them in for they wanted to see them and evaluate them. Problem is it is so damn hot here, its hard to work on the boat, the cabin is probably 175 degrees when you climb in there and you cant spend that much time down below before you are ready to pass out so im taking it slow. Cutting all new wood panels and re-wrapping them one at a time and installing them. Redoing all the lighting wiring as well since it has seen better days and has a noticeable amount of corrosion and the lights are all shot so they are all being replaced. Like I said though, its just SO hot down here that you have to work at a VERY slow pace so you dont keel over and pass out. Gallon of water an hour or so is average when im working on it during the day.
I dont expect to see her float for another year or so, Im taking alot of parts off, taking them home (bought a sand blasting cabinet) and cleaning everything up and painting everything bit by bit so this is going to take a while, this is a little bit BIGGER than the baja was and well im putting ALOT of time and effort into it all, I dont want this boat to look half assed in anyway shape or form so maybe next summer she will be ready to hit the water.
Also still working on the 77 Trans am. That engine should be done in a few weeks and thanks to Laz at Mesa, Should be up towards 600 HP with that bad boy!
Woohoo so I have alot of things going on and im just taking my time with it all! Its fun!

I got excited when I saw this post back at the top. I thought maybe the boat was up and going again. I was also hoping to see some updated pictures!

Speedo, I've seen a lot of your posts, which are mostly derogatory.

Thanks, Lucy. I miss boating with you guys already! :( I took the boat out of the water earlier than normal since my wife is expecting any day now. With all the nice weather we've been having it's been driving me crazy! :blaster:

I'm sure Speedo is a nice guy but sometimes we don't know what people's backgrounds are and when we hear stuff we don't know if they have an axe to grind of if they actually have experience. It would be nice if we knew a little more about him to understand where he comes from.

Lots of people out there who know it all but don't actually have any experience in what they are talking about.... :drink:

Congratulations Frank! Keep us inform:p

You all are a bunch of troublemakers!!!!:hitfan:

For what it's worth, let me tell you about my summer after discovering that I had a broken rocker arm. There were two broken pushrods, three broken lifters, four cracked lifter tiebars..... Fixed it and changed the camshaft over to a hydraulic roller from solids. I figured that I would run the boat for the rest of the season and then change the other engine's cam out over the winter. Went out to test run it and discovered why the rocker broke....The other engine was down on power, waaayy down. New short block, new heads and 30K later, I'm back on the water. Nobody is making fun of you Jay, we're just trying to let you know that shoes usually wear evenly.....along with most other things!!! Check both engines out thoroughly (compression and leakdown tests) and do it right!!!

Good luck!

Craig

Jayl13 07-11-2008 11:30 AM

Im here, been working alot lately and now trying to sell my house and get the hell out of here. Boat is now home in the back yard and going to start painting and airbrushing it soon. Been working alot on the race car lately as well. Laz Mesa built me one MOTHER of a 7.7 liter pontiac engine which is now all airbrushed (yes I airbrushed the engine block and heads) and everything else I could get my hands on, and im just enjoying things lately. Ditched the storage unit and brought the apache home so I can start painting it so that will be this summers fun project. Cabin is all back togher and im going to send out the blowers to get repolished from BDS and see about stripping the valve covers in the glass beading cabinet I have and airbrushing them and the flame arrestors and give them a face lift as well as try to chrome other things and paint other things. I just want to make this thing mine and have fun with it. Still no insurance so she is not going anywhere, might have to move back north to get 1000-2000 year insurance but down here its just not going to happen between 9 and 14 K a year is just not happening in anyway shape or form, If I had the $ for that which I dont I would never pay it for the crappy insurance they offer anyway so no deal.
Hope everyone is doing well and having a great season out on the water and remember, Gas is MEANT TO BE BURNT so dont go crying about gas, just suck it up and burn it and smile.
J

You know it!!!!! That's why we'll be filling up for the 4th time in less than 5 weeks!

Jayl13 07-11-2008 04:17 PM

I filled mine up before she went into hibernation so im sitting on a TON of fuel LOL. Both tanks are completley topped off. Ill probably start pumping it out into the vette and the lawn mowers now that its sitting in the back yard so I can get rid of that old gas out of there.
Will suck come fill up time but after I fire it up at the docks, that pain in the wallet will immediately go away so its of no concern.
Im more interested in how much paints are going to cost me to airbrush this mother! I for the first time got a real good look at the boat from the side (in my storage unit I was boxed in by motor homes on both sides) and I just stood back and looked at this thing and was just like Shiz nizzle my lord this thing is friggin HUGE. Funny when its in the water it looks smaller, MUCH smaller, but on the trailer it just dwarfs just about everything. Then again tongue of trailer to the props is about 50 feet so that adds to the overall HUGENESS if thats even a word
Its cool though
Hopefully the race car will be done and I can put all my efforts into face lift surgery for this thing.
J
