LOL i have the blower in the back seat of the truck, the cylinder head in the back seat of the truck on the floor, the intake on the floor and all new rocker arms and bolts etc and I need to find someone to setup the rockers (everyone tells me jessels are a real nightmare to setup)
I had a major problem with a lifter not going back into its bore after thecam pushed it out when the rockers broke. I ended up with a file and filed a burr out of the block and the lifter went right back in. Also had a rag soaked with oil under the lifter bore to catch the filings. it worked the lifter now slides right into the bore without a problem. I expected to see the piston or valves damaged and i found no such issue. Everything looks fine. Like somehow the lifter got hung up in the bore and thats what caused the rocker to break. the mechanical lifters are fine as well but I got a new set anyway. i need to figure out what head gasket I need and find someone to bolt the jessels back onto the head and get new blower, intake, head, exhaust gaskets and ill be good to go. These dart pro 1 aluminum heads are juist SICK, i picked up the head by holding onto the valve stem inside the intake runner and carry it around like that when I put it in the truck my whole hand fits inside the intake runners i want to spend some time cleaning up and polishing the blower and to my surprise it does not even need teflon strips those are perfect too, lobes are shiney and dont efven have any black soot on them one clean internal engine thats for sure Just have to find someone to setup the head and ill try to get this zipped back together soon. anyone know what the cost is to setup a head? Never took off the other head, that side looks fine so its just the one head that needs to be setup and installed on the block or mayve I can do that. I am still trying to recover from not having a job for 7 months so money is really tight at the moment. Anyone want to speculate on what the cost of installing a set of rocker arms cost> everyone tells me these jessels are a real pain in the ahole to do so I am in need of an engine builder. J |

Jayl13,
Dude do you sleep at all ??? Posting at 2:30 am......lol Call Gary Smith of Carolina Racing at 1-954-791-6867. I have had nothing but good luck with him over 17 years in florida. Let me know when you get it back together and I'll set up the cam-corder on my dune. I live just south of Boynton inlet by a mile and a half and dead due east of the "Banana Boat". Keep me posted........... Fi' Presto !!! Alez Vite !!! Crash-Box |
Jay, the lifter probably spider cracked near the axle and caused it to get hung up in the lifter bore. I've seen it happen many times. Try to make a habit of replacing the solid roller lifters either every season or every other season. I do mine every other season but my cam isn't very radical.
Usually the lifter fatigues/breaks, gets hung up in the bore as the piston comes up and slams into the valve, bending the pushrod and breaking the rocker arm. Be sure to run a hone thru the lifter bore and check clearance before putting it back together. |

The boat and Jay are in PA now, so the Cam in Boynton aint gonna help.
|
Had the sonic in some 4 footers last weekend and it loved getting on top of them...that is until we ran out of gas..the boat turned downstream and the waves stareted comeing up on the back swim deck lol.....evidentally the newly installed fuel regulators are a little defective but got it fixed. My boat just sits so low in the water compared to others. When trying to get on plane back passengers look like they are in the parted seas

Well why dont you bite me? What the hell I do with my boat is my God Damn business now isn't it? I chose to get rid of the baja and move up to an apache the boat had issues when I bought it and I knew that going into it. Sorry that I dont make 900, 000, 000.00 a year like your god like ass and that everyone in the apache forum has to have you telling everyone what they can and cant do with their apaches. You wonder why I basically stopped coming here right........... cause I CANT STAND being told to do by pain in the ass people Again what I do with my fukin boat is my gd business. You dont know my finances, you dont know me you know nothing about me so stop speculating and go post the same 50 pics of your girlfriend that we have seen for the last 16 years on here. Panther, they are Solid mechanical lifters not rollers. But I got the lifter issue solved, its back in the bore all is well there. Just need gaskets and to have the jessels setup by someone. Ike gave me the number of someone the other day and I am going to call that person this week if I can manage the time and see what it will run me to get the head setup. Have to order the correct gaskets from Jegs and now I better hurry up cause I have to winterize this thing and relatively soon cause it was awful cold here this morning. J |

If you wiped out a flat-tappet lifter, you more than likely damaged the lobe on the camshaft... I don't believe I've ever seen a lifter get messed up in a flat tappet cam without damaging the cam in some way. If the cam has even a nick on the face of the lobe you will have a problem again... Just trying to help...not inserting opinion.. :drink: |

M.M. your a legend in your own mind. Why don't you just give it a rest for a change and leave Jay alone. Your inane babble is one of the reasons I don't visit these boards that much anymore. Nobody really cares about how much you think you know. Heres a clue, the 80's are over, get over it. Don Johnson did, you can too.

Okay so we head out into the ocean through a voilent cut (inlet for those of you that boat inland) and was instantly in 2 footers, No problem, boat barely moved up and down, Then into the 3 footers, then 4, 5, 6, 7's and were probably in 7-8's most of the way from Boynton Beach to Lauderdale, with the occasional 10 footer that would just launch us in to the atmosphere, Now I notice as you are running on that front tank trying to keep the nose down gets progressively tougher to do. If I was thinking clearly rather than HOLY CRAP THIS IS FUN, I might have switched to the belly tank and emptied that out first to try to help keep weight up in the front and the nose down some. By nature this boat wants to run with her nose up a bit with minimal input from drives and planes. (thats what I love about it) She handled the rough stuff better than I could have hoped for. Was a violent run none the less but we went an easy 30 miles at about 50-55 MPH (was airborne so much I could not get much more speed) Seas were like a total washing machine, just coming at you from every direction, some small, some huge some holes here and there, just kept slamming along and going. She NEVER EVER got out of control, NEVER got squirley, But one thing, the front fuel fill flipped open from one of our trememdous hits teaching the atlantic ocean who's the boss! Nothing huge, but MAN what a ride this thing provides.
Im SO HOOKED! This 41 is the baddest azz rig around. Some might think they are outdated or out of their prime, Lets see some of these other boats do 50-55 in 7-10's and survive the violent seas that we were out in, My old baja could not take that type of beating for sure. No way on gods green earth! Hell I would break stuff on a calm day in that boat I used to have but this thing, Hell no, TOTAL ROCK! Lesson learned about which tank to run on in what conditions but now im more prepared for my next trip out, Im getting better at this thing! I WANT MORE SEAT TIME! J |
Hey...Any updates or has your priorities changed for the moment? Really enjoyed this thread.
Thanx, GB |
Did Jay ever get this boat going?
|
His Apache was in South Jersey....last I heard
|
I met Jay at the Miami Boat Show a couple years ago. He's quite the character! No idea where he is now, nor the boat.
|
Has anyone heard from, or about, Jay? I hope he's doing allright.
|
Anybody know what happened to Jay?
|
It appears the LOVE is long gone....
|
Last I knew, one motor broke a rocker(I was the one that removed the valve cover at the ramp to have it fall out in my hand). He lost his job in FL, and moved back North with the boat, havent heard anything since around 2010.

Doesnt seem like all that long ago. A lot of us gave him chit, but he meant well. I went with him to pick up the boat, and probably on every ride it went out until that damed rocker broke. The boat had potential, just needed some cleaning up. |
He was an all right different character type of guy
|
It's a shame he was pushed away. Also a shame to hear about his job. Hope all is well with him.
|
Seemed like he talked a good program but was mechanically clueless regarding what he owned. More into wanting paint and bling vs. a sound running boat.

Here is a link to a for-sale ad that (I think) is the boat from the video. I can't tell if the ad is current or maybe just something that was never deleted, but the location listed in Norfolk Va. It also lists "Matt" as the contact person rather than Jay so maybe it's an old ad.
