I LOVE this GD boat!
Okay so we head out into the ocean through a voilent cut (inlet for those of you that boat inland) and was instantly in 2 footers, No problem, boat barely moved up and down, Then into the 3 footers, then 4, 5, 6, 7's and were probably in 7-8's most of the way from Boynton Beach to Lauderdale, with the occasional 10 footer that would just launch us in to the atmosphere, Now I notice as you are running on that front tank trying to keep the nose down gets progressively tougher to do. If I was thinking clearly rather than HOLY CRAP THIS IS FUN, I might have switched to the belly tank and emptied that out first to try to help keep weight up in the front and the nose down some. By nature this boat wants to run with her nose up a bit with minimal input from drives and planes. (thats what I love about it) She handled the rough stuff better than I could have hoped for. Was a violent run none the less but we went an easy 30 miles at about 50-55 MPH (was airborne so much I could not get much more speed) Seas were like a total washing machine, just coming at you from every direction, some small, some huge some holes here and there, just kept slamming along and going. She NEVER EVER got out of control, NEVER got squirley, But one thing, the front fuel fill flipped open from one of our trememdous hits teaching the atlantic ocean who's the boss! Nothing huge, but MAN what a ride this thing provides.
Im SO HOOKED! This 41 is the baddest azz rig around. Some might think they are outdated or out of their prime, Lets see some of these other boats do 50-55 in 7-10's and survive the violent seas that we were out in, My old baja could not take that type of beating for sure. No way on gods green earth! Hell I would break stuff on a calm day in that boat I used to have but this thing, Hell no, TOTAL ROCK! Lesson learned about which tank to run on in what conditions but now im more prepared for my next trip out, Im getting better at this thing! I WANT MORE SEAT TIME! J |
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Sounds like fun . :evilb: The biggest sea's I had mine in was a 6 foot chop. :evilb:

Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
What does a 10 foot wave look like when you are approaching it? Does it look like a MX style table top or what?
|
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
That sounds SWEET! Glad you are enjoying your dream boat!!! :)

Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Jay Congrats on your new 41 Apache! I have been following your 2 year obsessive research for the most gorgeous speedboat on this planet. Good job on your maiden voyage. Looking forward to hearing more.
Eyezlee Jumping gaps in the ocean is very similar to motocross riding. I have been out on the Pacific during a large West swell in Winter, when the ocean started to grow. I was hitting close to 60 MPH and timing the gaps perfectly. The further out, the larger the swell. I was so focused on the crest-to-wave back on/off the throttles that I did not realize how gigantic the swell had become. Only when I stopped to take a breather did I have this eerie sensation that the ocean is vast and wide. We were going up the waves and could see for miles, but down in the trough it was a dark, black place. you could only see 2 walls of water. Then back up to the crest to see endless swell. I then turned South to surf them back home. This was a very big day. My passenger said that when we were in the air, he was looking down 2 stories into the gap.I was so focused that I never knew. Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Jayl13: It sounds like you had a blast! We had a day similar to what you described a few years ago when I owned the Top Gun. The swells were an honest 8' and were spread apart really far so we spent that day just having fun seeing how much hang time we could get. I have never seen another day like that here. We have had rough days, but on this particular day the swells were so far apart that you had plenty of time between them to either stop and rest or get ready for the next one. It was one of the best days I have had on the water.
I am glad that you are enjoying your new boat. That is what they are for...run them! We took the power steering pumps out of mine today, but we will be back running in a day or two. One of the pumps started making noise and the steering got noticeably more difficult when we ran it last weekend, so we yanked the noisy pump out to fix it. Then I figured that since they are the same age we had better do both of the steering pumps while we are at it! No big deal, just another day in paradise! :D |
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Sounds like you had fun for sure!.. It's amazing what Aronow & Saccenti built.. If their boats can't run the waters, the waters cant be run by any powerboat.. :) Jamie / Lakeside

Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
As Mike said, it was ROUGH! That was not exactly the water I wanted to learn driving this boat in but ask Mike, I think I did okay, but definitely lesson learned about keeping the nose tank full on those stupid rough days to help keep the nose down so she will fly straighter for towards the end of our run, the front kept coming way up on me and I was a little nervous but I made SURE I was throttling my azz off to not break anything in the drives or over rev the engines. Im getting the feel for it when the drives come out of the water (which was just about every time we hit a wave and went over it) I was too busy concentrating on not breaking anything or blowing anything up to look over to see the pitfalls we were flying over but ill tell you going straight out the inlet, and the waves progressively getting bigger, a 10 foot wave looks like well a mountain that you have to crash through the first one to get up on top, Once you are on top just hope you dont fall into the trough or the "hole" and do your best to keep top to top, but as far as what you see, Watch "The Deadliest catch" and you will know. All you say to yourself in a new boat and the first time being in those conditions, well only thing that comes to mind is "OH CHIT!!!! HOLD ON!" My arm still hurts from throttling that long last week! Just very surprised how much abuse this boat can take and keep on running without any problems. Something im not used to coming from my old boat.
I can tell you though I need to some how make some small platform with plenty of padding to stand on for your legs and feet take some major abuse pounding the waves for that length of time. Something Im going to have to come up with and get some 3-4 inches of foam under some carpet to stand on. Great ride, I have NO complaints about this boat at all. Docking is becoming easier as well, I just about fit this 41 inside a tuna can when I picked up my wife that morning at the local restaruant, Mike thought I was going to crack up the boat, Nope, I could fit that thing in a tuna can if I had to! Mike said he would buy me a bottle of whiskey after I pulled a 180 in a narrow canal and side stepped the boat into a 45 foot spot, picked up the wife and shoved off never touching anything or any body or other boats or anything, Just perfect. Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Had a run like that the first time out this year, it was Northeast winds at 15-25. Once we turned the hook and ran to the ocean it got interesting..... What a way to break the new drives in. :drink:
The Apache didn't shudder, twist or make any noises the whole time. My 36' thinks she's a 40 ft'er.... Then again, that's why we get Apache's right? :D |

Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
That kind of water is what a 41 is all about. They are built for the rough water, not ICW cruising ala Top Guns!
(That ought to bring out some response) :) As for looking dated, they look about as dated as a Gull Wing Mercedes! :) You definetly found the right boat, it's unusual to buy a boat, take it out in that kind of water and not find some major issues. Come on up to Daytona this afternoon, they are calling for 10 to 12 footers Debbie told me. |
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
She is down for the count temporarily, Having the steering rams rebuilt, since one is leaking pretty bad im getting them both redone from Marine Machine, Have to get them over there so they can get them redone for me, Have some other things, Want to change the drive fluid and the damn plugs on the transom assembly wont budge so I have to figure out a way to get them off and replace them, Oil change time, And the exhaust is all coming off and going to the welders, I want everything pressure tested, and welded, I have another leak somewhere so she will be sitting for another 2-3 weeks while I can get all this stuff taken care of but man I love this GD boat! Runs her ACE off!
Panther, Yes thats exactly why we have these things, Its not an OL, its not a black thunder or anything else but if you were in those boats out in the snot I was in, Hah, you would have turn around and ran, not me, F that, GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!!!! Get on top of em! Mark, we were out all day, left Delray at 1130 or so (would have left earlier but it was dead low tide at 10 AM. Back on trailer around 7-730 PM so we went everywhere! Great day! Boat was taken care of with an open check book until the guy I bought it from bought it about 9 months ago was a broker so he did nothing with it. So now I have some other things I want to upgrade and update on it but she runs her ACE OFF! |
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
new linner or rebonded?...........I would think to replace the linner they had to remove deck...............m.m...........

Re: I LOVE this GD boat!

|
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
As far as I'm concerned all 41's need an open checkbook !!! :D
We're going out Sunday for the first time this season....I'll try to take some pics. |
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Go for it Wes!
MM Yes the deck was removed, the liner was replaced, the cabinets were all redone in the pink, the dash was wrapped in new Vinyl material (not sticker vinyl, padded leather vinyl material with padding behind it like that 2 million dollar apache has!!! (Im such a trend setter for the others to follow LOL)) The tanks were replaced, the fuel lines and shut off valves were replaced, part of the interior (side gunnel pads) were replaced, the seats were left original, The whole boat was taken apart and reworked and put back together. She is a rare bird having the cabin, staggered engines and a full cockpit. I believe not sure I have one of 3 staggered cabin and full cockpit boats made. Most of the pleasure version 41's were side by side. I would have bought it side by side regardless but it being a staggered setup was a TOTAL BONUS! Im STILL in shock that I own this bad boy! Going to yank the steering rams off after the holiday and send them to Marine Machine and get them rebuilt, Have some things I want to do and then its time to talk to my main man BIll Mazzoni to see if I can use one of his facilities to paint it. She NEEDS paint so bad im DYING to hide the old and get started on the new! Mark, I know its hard to believe the boat was completely de-rigged but it was. New rub rail around the whole boat, total open check book maintained this boat from some guy who owned it up in West Palm Beach. It was built to RUN PERIOD, this boat was not a trailer queen this thing clocked alot of hours and when Ed Cozzi went over it, he could not find not even ONE stress crack anywhere, and with the carbon and kevlar setup, you can guess why. All I have to say is I POUNDED about 30 miles of 7-10 foot waves in MY APACHE! I OWN This bad boy and I LOVE IT! I have always sat in the sidelines wishing I could get one of these things and NOW I have one, Im more proud than a new father! Just shows you an average joe can pull this off if you pull the trigger at the right time. You all would crap your pants if you all knew how much I bought this boat for. I could have bought almost anything, but I waited for this and I got it cheaper than ALL the other boats I came across, fountains, scarabs, Guns you name it. My payment is less than my barbeque grill baby! (and no I did not finance my bbq grill LOL) I just read that Sprit of Apache article in Extreme boats magazine, I know what the owners of that boat are feeling, I get goose bumps everytime I say to someone, Yeah I own a 41 apache, (see there they go again, standing up) I LOVE this thing! Its one BAD ACE Boat, Just ROCKS! Now that I have learned how to drive it in 7-10 footers, Im ready for 15 footers baby! She will be able to handle it too, problem is will I???? LOL 41 apaches will live FOREVER! |

:D :D
PPPINK HOLE!!!! Now thats a good one! I don't care what ya say!! :p |
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
I've spent most of my life trying to get IN a pink hole. :)
|
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Thats right, The pink hole commands your life. You pay dearly for it, You take care of it, You use it and abuse it, and when it leaves you, you STILL pay for it! High Maintenance hole if you will.
Riding that hole brings you joy, when that hole has a friend inside you get upset, when that hole falls apart you get really upset and some need to find a new hole and trade the old one in. Okay I dont know where this is going but LMFAO thats pretty good. Found some new insurance since State Farm decided to drop me after a month (nice huh?) Bob Luellen at World Wide marine underwriters is charging me 2867 a year full coverage on 95G's of coverage and 300-500 P&I and pollution liabilities. So needless to say DONE! have to get him to get it through underwriting and back to me asap. Would like to head out one more time over the holiday weekend before she becomes a trailer queen and gets some cosmetic surgery and Have the steering rams sent to Byng at Marine Machine to get rebuilt and re-sealed so no more steering leaks. Maybe Ill do an OCC unveiling somewhere like one of the poke her runs? LOL Rock the Bay PR probably in September is what I am shooting for. Hopefully my new apache cleats will be in today or tomorrow, (yes those big aluminum ones) and next week LET THE PAINTING AND DE-RIGGING BEGIN! J |
Re: I LOVE this GD boat!
Sounds like you have a new name for it, the PPPink Holes :D :drink:
