45 Apache
As many of you already know I am debating between making some changes to the Apache or going with a different boat altogether. The rest of the family wants more creature comforts (more cockpit room, cabin, bathroom, etc) while I like the hardcore plain-jane boats. So the bottom line is that I either need to make some changes to this boat or find something else.
This is where you guys come in. I have been looking around at prices listed on other Apaches and they are all over the scale. I have a recent appraisal, but it is absolutely unrealistic as to what the market price or actual selling price of this boat may be. I need to know a good ballpark so that I can weigh my options and decide which is the best way to go. So, what price would you guys list this boat at or at what price would it sell? This is certainly not a sellers market right now, but I just need a good consensus on an actual market value. I really want to keep this boat and make the changes, but I want to feel out all of the options before I decide. As always, thanks for the help! |

Keep the Apache

Re: 45 Apache
Ask REDDEATH! :drink:
Seriously, keep the Apache and if possible buy a boat/cruiser with all the creature comforts that would make your family happy. |

Re: 45 Apache
I love your boat...
I didn't remember that it didn't have a cabin.... Wow... I can fell you pain though... My family did persuade me into a boat with big cockpit and gen/AC... If you can afford want you want and have the room to keep it, I say keep the Apache.. Its a beautiful boat and sadly to say the market is not very giving right now. Many of the folks at LOTO keep a go fast at the dock along with a family cruiser... :drink: |
Re: 45 Apache
That 45 may be the most perfect Apache. It's certainly the rarest.
If it were mine, I don't know whay I'd regret more- parting with it or turning it into a pleasure cruiser. In reality, I can't imagine what you could do under that deck to make it "comfortable" like a Searay or the like. In the end, if the family wants comfort, I doubt you'll find it in that cabin. |

Re: 45 Apache
The tall intercooler makes the engines look bigger meaner than they are. Remote mount intercoolers have been invented and don't take up that much hatch space. For the price that you want for those engines, I'll buy two BRAND NEW turbo engines from Brad Smith.
Hot Duck That boat is a fine example of a nice Apache. It is the only 45 ever made. You shouldn't be scared to price it in between the 47's and 41's that are available. Remember, its yours and you can do with it what you want. |

I have not been back to check this thread in a while, but thank you all for the replies. After looking at some possibilities, the plan right now is to change this boat a little bit so that it fits the needs, but does not destroy the history or look of the boat. We are looking at moving the rear cockpit bulkhead back a little bit to get more room in the cockpit, adding a covergirl type cabin with enclosed head under the dash (where it is deep/tall enough to stand up) and either moving the front engine room bulkhead forward or staggering the engines to get more space in the engine room (easier to work on).
I want to make a few other changes that are mostly cosmetic. Other than the paint, the item that will change the boat the most is going back to the split Apache style engine hatches. This is what the boat had originally and it is what I want to put back on there. We can use these hatches and still leave a little room between them and the cockpit for a small sun pad. I think that this will work out just fine. I have a quote from Guardado to do this work and I am in the process of getting a few more. I don't know if I can afford to have McManus do it, but I am gonna give him a call anyway, just to see. :D I want to get this work lined up for next fall (fall 07) so that we can start in October and have it finished and ready to go for the following summer. It is a lot of work, but it can be done in that time. Let's hope that we have a good summer this year so that I can pull this off! Anybody looking to visit OC this summer, click here to help pitch in on the Apache fund! :D Commander Hotel :p |
Re: 45 Apache
Hey Hot Duck why are you selling that sweet boat. I thought you are going to make some changes on her?

Re: 45 Apache
Just feeling out the waters. I tried to get a number here to see what the value was and I did not get an answer. So, I figured that I would list it to see if there was any interest. If it sells at or around that price I will buy a boat with what we need. If I don't get any bites then I will do the work to this boat. I have plenty of time to figure it out and see what happens because we would not tear into the Apache until after this coming summer anyway. No hurry, no rush. Like I said, just feeling things out a bit.

I've already been in touch with Satan but it seems my soul isn't worth quite what I thought. I'll see if I can scrape together the difference and will be in touch. |
