Ya know what Bill?

You and I made the deal. You and I have actually owned this boat. You and I are fine with things. I feel that our deal went well. No funny business... you even brought the boat closer to us. My check cleared. The boat was as expected.
There is no reason for either one of us to be bothered by Andy. You and I dealt with each other like grown ups. How often do people hear THAT on OSO?

I understand your situation and what you do for a living vs. what you like to do for a hobby. I don't think that you have anything to defend yourself against.
Nor do I.

Thanks again for what I feel was a fair and no BS deal. And for the time and energy that you invested in the boat before you decided that you would prefer to go a different direction with your time, talent and resources.

Nice project Razer, We do spend a lot of money on our projects. We will never see a return on our investment. We do it for the thrill of the sport. I for one went way over on spending on my project but didn't hock the house to do it. Time patience and money, not nessiserially in that order. If you want to take a gander at my parts list here is the link. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...11#post2689711 We all have a limit, and do what we can to keep enjoying the sport. Sometimes duck tape and bailing wire to get us by. If I could afford a new 400K boat I would still be fixing my old Velocity. Keep up the hard work on your restoration projects, thanks for keeping these older boats on the water and thanks for all the help we get here on OSO. I'll be taking mine to the grave, it's going to make one hell of a casket. Keep on keeping on. VV

Bill, i have no problem with you at all.
I feel for you, that you made a kind of rookie mistake taking care of the cosmetics before the mechanicals. Wasn't the boat usable when you bought it? Did you use it before you started tearing it down? IMO, buy it and use it and enjoy it for at least one season... all the bugs will come out, and take care of them. Now in funds case, he knows where he stands with this boat, there should not be many big surprises after he gets power for it and goes through the rest of the drivetrain and rigging.

I actually have not been very vocal, i've had 10 posts in each of your 2 threads, and most of them have been very constructive. I don't see much attitude in many of my posts either. The only issue was your "do i sell or keep it" post. I tried being supportive on both sides of the issue, and i called it like i saw it, which is just what you were looking/asking for.
That was a very personal question you asked and really could only be answered by you. I've been there, done that, and have an idea of what it would cost to get'er done. You are the one who asked how to spend your money in that thread, how else am i to answer it?

I wish fund the best and look forward to him enjoying this boat.

I also wish you the best in finding your next boat and having it be a better experience than this one was.

I think you've found some good guys on this site now to help you with your next purchase, and will give you good advice.

Rob

Thanks Rob, I will be making more informed decisions on the next boat I purchase, I always owned newer boat that were turn key!! I bought the apache because I thought I wanted a project, but it became more than I expected it to be!!! I loved the boat but in the end it just was not for me!! John got a great boat that will just need motors now!! Thanks again Rob for clearing that up. Hey Andy I think once you and John get your apache's done you will probally have the two nicest ones out there!!! I have not seen very many clean 28 Apaches around, They all need some kind of work!!!

He fired off the personal insults first and I've got to defend myself.
This account sounded unfamiliar, so I had to go back and see what happened. Come to find out, I came on this thread because I bought the boat in question.
I didn't ask Andy for his advice or opinion. He really wanted to share it, as he is an internet expert. He also shared his expert opinion on "doing things right."
I said nothing to him except: "I plan to get it home and see what I've got."
Later, when he decided to share that he purchased an innapropriate and undersized tow vehicle, I remembered his stance regarding "doing things right." I chuckled, and decided to tease him about it, since after all... he is a tool and tools deserve to be kept honest.
So I teased him about it. And he freaked out. It wasn't meant to be an insult. It was what we do around here. Good natured jab. Complete with smilies.
If I wanted to personally insult him I would have told him that he is chubby, dumb, immature and has a serious personality disorder and that because of it, his marriage wouldn't last 3 years.
But all I did was keep him honest in regard to "doing things right" and towing a nearly 5 ton package with a half ton truck.

Maybe he should have kept his poor towing practices to himself. After all, we were talking about towing my boat, not his. He just needs to be in on everything. Even when it isn't about him.

That should about recap it.
