I am thinking of getting this scout on craigslist and doing a full resto on it (great winter project). A few questions for you guys as I am a car guy just getting into boats.
Does this hull take a motor with a 25" or 20" mid? I'm guessing a 25" mid as this motor looks tall. Would a 20" mid work if I added a power jack plate as I see this boat does not have one as of now.
Also changing brand of motors, big deal or not? I'm guessing not but looking into whats involved here too. Any pointers would be great to help me make my decision, thanks in advance to all who care to chime in.

You have no idea what you are in for. If you think it will be 10 grand to fix, double it to 20 grand....maybe. The boat was ment to have a 25" engine, but can be set up to use a 20". It also handle better with the 20" engine.

I definately know about cost issues. I have restored a few old muscle cars in my time, it's exactly what you say - If you think it will cost you so much, double it.
But if I decide to do this project, I can take one year and replace the motor, rig it and run it for the season, then the following year I can work on the hull, strip it bare and go over the whole thing. I don't need to do this all at once, I can break it up to at least a few seasons. As long as the hull is as solid as this guy says with no soft spots, I would not mind running it as it looks with newer power for a season or two before I strip the hull bare. It would be nice to do it all at once but as you just stated, it's gonna cost. If I had 20G's to throw down all at once, I know CMC's is for sale. By the way.. CMC, why are you selling your scout after a full resto?
