Ghost Runner's Happy New Owners

Hello everyone,

I figured I would introduce myself even though I have been a member on OSO for awhile now. We are thrilled to finally be part of the Apache Community with our recent purchase of Ghost Runner. I still am in shock and disbelief. My wife and I, and our good friend / business partner have boated together for years working on an old Scarab and dreaming of someday owning a 41 Apache. We had been looking at pleasure cabin setups, mostly advocated by my wife and wouldnt you know it she discovered the listing for our new staggered 6 pack!

Ghost Runner came along, all the pieces fell into place and somehow we are the proud new owners of this awesome 41. We picked her up last Tuesday in SC and brought it back to MD that day.

We boat mostly on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, but might have to take the occasional trip down to OC, MD to get out in some bigger water. For now the plan is to go over it from top to bottom, and make sure its ready for the water. Its been sitting a few years so things like valve springs, fluids and so on need to be addressed.

I want to personally thank Mark Rinda of MER Performance Marine in Little River SC for all of his assistance throughout this whole process. Mark is a stand up guy and knows his stuff. I would recomend his services to anyone.

Currently Ghost Runner has a pair of 1100's in it with wet 6's. There is a ton of rigging for us to get our heads around but were loving every minute of it and looking forward to getting it wet.

Thanks,

Brad Harbold

Congrats Brad! You and your wife bought a boat with a lot of great history. Now you just have to put the neon green interior back in it! :D

Thanks everyone! Would love to see any pics anyone has or any stories they know on it feel free to share. Part of the fun of these boats is they each have a unique history all their own.

Congrats, cant wait to see it on the bay! thats 2 new apaches to NE MD.!

I too had Dreams of owning that boat!!! I used to drive past it everyday on my way to work in Colfax NC. The boat at that time was being sold at GeT Wet marine, My dad always told me if your going to dream, dream big.

Btharbold 07-13-2011 08:52 AM

You have to dream big. For me the Apaches are the ideal powerboat. They are old school, heavy, take a ton of power to move, virtually run through anything, have a great history, may not be the fastest thing out there any more, but thats not the point.

Still chasing down parts, waiting on some tools to pull valve springs, fuel filters/water seps, carb kits, oil filters, and on and on. Want to make sure we address all the obvious stuff before it goes in the water.

Congratulations!

Hey Frank,

Got your message, thanks for calling. I will give you a call this week, it would be good to catch up. Hope to be on the water in a few weeks.

There are plenty of nice places here on the upper bay to run to and anchor out.

Take care,

Brad

Btharbold 07-17-2011 08:43 PM

Hey Sean,

It was great meeting you, Im glad you were able to stop by. Always fun to hear some Apache stories and I love learning whatever we can about the history of Ghost Runner. The more I hear and the more time I spend on it the more I love it.

Stop by any time if your in the area, were easy to find.

Brad

Btharbold 07-17-2011 08:45 PM

Hey Mike,

Thank you. Which 41 do you have? We have friends in jersey near ac so I'm sure at some point in the future we will get up that way. Doubt it will be this season though.

Thanks,

Brad

KIDDS 07-24-2011 09:13 AM

Brad,
My 41 Apache Name Is Tatonka Check Out The Video On Youtube

Btharbold 07-24-2011 08:48 PM

Hey Mike, Tatonka is a sweet ride. Your deck layout is excatly what we want to do to Ghost Runner. I want to free up a little space and make the cabin easier to access. Would be cool to make the wtb front bolster removable so we could still use it if we wanted to.

KIDDS 07-25-2011 09:58 PM

Brad , Sounds Good But Just Enjoy The Boat For The Summer, My 41 Apache Is In Florida So Next Summer I Will Bring It Up To New Jersey And I Have Some Plannned Project To Do On My 36 Apache

Btharbold 07-26-2011 03:49 PM

Yep thats the plan try and get out there and enjoy the rest of this season. Plenty of time over the winter to mess with interior redesign. Just need to create more useable boating space. Will probably pad the hatches as well. Make everything modular and easily removable if we chose to. I have seen Tatonka forsale for a long time, just leaving it out there to see if anyone bites? That is a sweet ride, what do you see for speed with it? It is probably a similar hull to ours as it was one of the last McManus 41's that were carbon and kevlar.

KIDDS 07-26-2011 09:13 PM

Brad, Would You Beleive I Never Pushed The Boat All Maxed Outthe Most I Did Was 98 And Had Alot More To Go , But I Know The Gps Has 105 Mph On It Thats With Chief 1050 And I Have Extention Boxes On The#6 Drives. Iam Really Thinking Of Going To The New Turbo Engines If I Don't Sell The Boat That Is Really Cool Set Up I Saw One Boat On A Poker Run In Jersey With Tommy Chief Engine Turbo Really Rerliable No Supercharger It's The Future Of Big Power.

Tonto 07-27-2011 04:08 PM

Man I love your boat. I got to see it when it was at Racine Designs. That is one bad ace ride .

Btharbold 08-09-2011 07:38 PM

Thanks for the kind words guys. We got lucky, 6's were in pretty good shape all things considered. Prop shaft seals were shot and we drained over a gallon of water out of one of the drives. Craig said they look pretty good, we should have them back soon. Valve springs are done, pulled helmets to do bellows. Spent 4 hours drilling out a seized trim cyl pin, no fun there. Still have a bunch to do, shooting for water in about a month.

Nykamp 08-10-2011 06:58 PM

Congrates, welcome to the tribe.
