What a joke.......he hasn't built $$$$!!!

"I'm almost starting to regret getting into this," said Allen, who has plans to sue the two businessmen who sold him the Apache trademark in April 2003. "I'm starting to think this is a freaking headache. All I wanted to do was build a quality boat."

RollWithIt 05-03-2004 12:52 PM

For somebody who knows how to run business' so well, you would think that he would have researched the company he was buying. Not like there is a lack of info dealing with Apache.

Mike No right but they do !!"a dozen employees at his Apache Powerboats are custom-building racing boats -- and attempting to rebuild history"

dlbCheckmate 05-03-2004 01:24 PM

There is a simular article in this issue of PRA. Says about the same, But they do show a photo of his T-Shirt collection !! :D :D :D

SS930 05-03-2004 01:27 PM

Now this sounds entertaining!:D
Even my buddy Jack made the news... I can't believe he'd be involved with something shady like this.:(

So anyway...
I'll have an extra large popcorn (extra butter), large Coke, one bag of Twizlers, and a Milky Way bar please! Second thought, give me two of the extra large popcorn orders please!:D

IDRPSTF 05-03-2004 01:34 PM

He wanted to build a quality boat...So he let Bobby go?
Isn't that like wanting to make a really good pizza, so you fire Wolfgang Puck?WTF?
Sorry, us Italians only know one analogy!

CigDaze 05-03-2004 02:14 PM

Nice...I'm sure we all have a lot more confidence now, than before.

Ron P 05-03-2004 02:18 PM

What does a logo have to do with building a boat?

glassdave 05-03-2004 02:19 PM

is Jayl13 still with them. just curious actually.

Ron i was thinking the same thing. make a lateral move on the name thing and get some boats out there . from what i have seen so far it should be one hell of a boat. i know they wanted to build under Apache but at this point wonder if its just best to just cut their losses and get somthing out there.

Although he has a Plan B that he declined to discuss ready to go if the judge rules against him, Allen says he's confident he'll win but frustrated with the process.

Get Plan B ready. You will need it.

"I don't know how to build a boat," Allen said.

That's obvious.

"I know how to run a business."

Not the way it looks so far.

OldSchool 05-03-2004 02:28 PM

All this BS could end by just producing ONE STINKING BOAT!!!!!!! If it's a quality product, the word will get out....really fast!! How long does it take a dozen people to build one boat?

What a phucktard!! Thats an azzload of advertising $$ that's been wasted.

They stiffed Jay, He put his house up for sale, leased an Apartment in Boynton, helped them out at the Miami Show, then they told him his services were no longer needed. Well He will be OK, I have been helping him put the Baja Back together, and it is getting there, He found work last week, Building Houses, NOT boats!!! Actually, He will be doing some computer junk for a Custom Home Builder down here in South Florida, We all know that is a much more stable business, than working for APACHE.

Jayl13 05-03-2004 03:10 PM

Yeah I dont work there anymore.
subsequently I stopped over there today to get money that they owed me, and they do have the molds done for the hull, deck, hatches everything and are starting to lay some epoxy glass.
I wish them well and Yes I now work for a custom home builder as their manager of IT department. Lets just say my time in the boating industry was short and sweet.
The boat will be interesting to see since all i have seen is plugs for months and months.
Steve1, LOL they were choppin up the plugs today with sawzaws and sledge hammers, makes you want to cry from all the work that went into it.
Jason

CigDaze 05-03-2004 03:13 PM

Good to hear from ya, Jay!
Best of luck!

So, how's Florida treatin' ya?...

SS930 05-03-2004 03:13 PM

Shane,
It's taken you 32 years to ask where the $ is???

They didn't run the plug to see how the bottom worked? Most companies make all their changes to the running plug before making a mold.

Maybe they got it perfect the on the first try.

And i hear they also stiffed him on his Pay

I Wonder how long the other employees will stay "custom-building racing boats -- and attempting to rebuild history" when they go home without a paycheck ????

glassdave 05-03-2004 03:35 PM

sorry to hear about that Jay. the boating industry is a tough place to be sometimes. glad to hear you were able to find somthing else down there. every time i get down to FLA it gets harder and harder to come back up north. have a good one

hows the Baha by the way

Steve 1 05-03-2004 03:36 PM

Jay how are you ??

Jayl13 05-03-2004 03:39 PM

Yo Mark!
what up bro?

Since I was "stiffed" as the others so eloquently put it, I dont know what testing or anything they did on the plugs, molds, cadd designs nothing.
I KNOW NOTHING
I do know that I did get paid finally which is what i was most concerned with.

From what I have seen and have read and the time frame that all this so called building has been going on PLUS the fact that McManus owns the copyright it does not look to promising now does it?
It is a big mess no doubt and I for one would not feel comfortable ordering a boat...who would? Fever Mike

======================================

Hi Mike let me answer this way it was the end of Sept beginning of Oct when it got started in Del-ray I have been done for 2 Months .. The question remains; is How Long does it take to build a high end set of tooling including the enormous amount of fairing?? Ps I am known for flawless work !!

ApacheCarl 05-03-2004 04:21 PM

If Thad "owned" the Apache name and Logo why did he try to buy it from Mark McManus ??????? hmmmm

I sure hope Plan B is a good one.

LOL he said he doesn't know how to build boats, but he knows how to run a business ?????

Well, he got that about half right. Plus, thats just what the general public wants to hear from somebody they are thinking about buying a boat from. "I dont know anything about boat building but I can run the hell out of a Taco Bell, construction company, or the local muffler shop ect ect ect. I'm gona buy my next car from my dentist, who has a MBA and is a very good businessman. yikes.
You get the picture.

Finally, To build a quality boat he had to ask Bob Saccenti to leave ??????? Excuse me. It should have been the other way around. Forgive me if i'm wrong, but Bob Saccenti was working in the boat business while this guy was still filling diapers.

When I was recruited for my current position I spoke on multiple occassions with the recruiter/head hunter that introduced me to the firm. During those discussions we spoke about compensation. In all my interviews etc. I was told that all communication go through the recruiter. I followed their rules. When my ofer letter came it did NOT specifically state what pay raises and bonuses would be. I asked the recruiter prior to signing the offer letter what those bonuses and raises would be. He gave me specific numbers. I asked why it was not in the contract. He stated that they did not put it in any contract but, so long as business remained good and I did a satisfactory job, I would receive these increases and bonuses. Well we have had 32 STRAIGHT years of record revenue and record profits and I am short in excess of $40,000. I have a meeting with our CEO Thursday to discuss this. I have gone up the chain of command. So as to not get into to much minutia, is my employer able to be held responsible for the actions of the recruiter? Is this an agency relationship? Meaning was the recruiter who was being paid to recruit acting as an agent?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know what I can help with, but the recruiter acts as the agent for the firm they represent. Unless the recruiter was lying about the bonus structure I don't think there is any recourse. The bonus structure is usually laid out in the employee manual, and can be given in writing if the employee request's. A Bonus is not guaranteed unless given in writing.

Re: Apache in the West Palm Beach news

That was a good read. Sounds like Thad went fishing and hooked himself right in the wallet. Sue everybody, even Mcmanus who had nothing to do with him.
Also, it seems Mcmanus has quite the reputation as a meticulous boatbuilder. I doubt Thad could sue him out of that. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in court.
