I'm on my third Baja and I have not had any experience with blistering. The first 10 years I boated I didn't keep my boat on a lift but trailered in and out.

I agree with Dock, never leave it in the water unless on vacation or something and then only for a few days. Never leave a big investment in the water for the entire boating season.

It does and it WILL blister.
A wise decision on your part. Enjoy your boat.

I can't believe you guys don't leave boats in the water. Their boats! What about marina that are full all summer with hundreds of boats? I have had a lot of boats, mostly Baja's from the late 80's to 2004, left in from June to September-and have not noticed any problems.

The ONLY time my boat is in the water overnight is when we stay on the houseboat. Other than that it sits on the lift in a covered slip.
I know boats are made to run in water but I don't leave my sitting in water. I don't like cleaning the crap off of it afterwards. Lake Cumberland is clean but it still gets the boat nasty.

One of the worst I have ever seen was a 38 Top Gun in Jacksonville that was at T & T for repairs. Dave there told me the guy had left the boat in the water for a year. This was in June if this year. The boat was about six years old.

It was a real mess.

On the same trip Dell Marine had a 29 Scarab that the guy brought into them to be cleaned. It looked like it had NEVER been out of the water. Would have liked to have seen it afterwards. It had about one inch of slime growing on it and I would bet there was some damage.

If you look at GelCoat under a microscope you will understand why you do not leave it in the water.

Go to ANY fiberglass repair shop and ask them if Baja has the market cornered on this problem!! While you are there ask them if they think it is ok to leave your boat in! Unless they are trying to drum up buisness I think they will agree! But what would they know, they just do it for a living!

Bottom paint is for anti-fouling purposes-like barnacles, zebra mussels, etc.

No need to get your panties in a bunch guys. I merly like the convenience of being able to use the boat anytime. If I had to trailer and launch everytime I boated, I would not boat. I failed to mention, I usually pull the boat mid season for a good cleaning, and weekly clean it while it's in the water. Our fresh water lake is not to bad, but it will get slimy if left unattended.

Seriously, though, what do you think of all the cruisers and other boats left in at all the marina's? No one has commented on their stupidity.....
