If you want room and a good riding boat at 50MPH it is great.
Activators are VERY fast boats. A few showed up at the Jacksonville run last year and WOW were they fast. They smoked all the Velocity folks. But it is a SMALL boat. You can put three of them in a 29 Outlaw.

If you just want a big nice riding boat and speed is not an issue I would not spend the money for the 500, 525 or the 600. You will NEVER see it back out of that boat and it will still not be that fast. Just stick with a 496HO and have the difference for a lifetime worth of fuel.

Your probably right as the whole concept is an affordable cost for operating it. I suspect there's a lot of folks who would be thrilled with the ride of a 29' hull without the expense of running twins.
Roughly, how much more does a 29OL weigh compared to a 272?

29 OL Single Dry Weight = 5575 Lbs
29 OL Twin Dry Weight = 6800 lbs
The 29 is a much larger boat, it punches a much bigger whole through the air and has more wetted surface by far.

That's probably too much hull to be pushed around by 400-500hp.
And as my son reminded me, you would only buy a Baja to go fast,
..... otherwise get a Tollycraft
