I'm confused:( |
staggering the motor will raise the X The CG is to far forward because of large cockpit, Baja has the longest cockpit of all performance boats 39 cig sstag. 700,s runs 100 to 103 fountains is even faster they all use the same mat. weights are with in 1000 lbs/1500 Baja runs 85, 86 stepps my give the the other boats about 7 mph not 18 to 20 mph I think it is all about the cg in the baja JUST MY OPINION after owning a 25 ol 302 and my 33 I could go on and on ? does your boat loose 18 mph with 5 adults I would guess about 4mph

Baja has come a long way, but the really need to step it up in the building process. But then again the won't because they will have to charge more therefor losing there core market.

Did you guys know that Baja owns the 39 V bottom skater mold ,fastest step bottm out there.SPIDERMAN! Its in there yard collecting dust .I talked to the new President for 1.5hrs.at Fox chapels poker run in pgh.He told me he put that boat out with twin 525 for 2k But they didnt know how to market it DA Ithink it would sell it self.

Im not real sure of the speed ,spiderman ran in upper 90,s with 525s all you guys that tweeked the sh t out of you Bajas and do alot of pokerruns. Graduated to somthing better for instance my engines make 810 hp I run 98/100 Ive only saw 100 three times . My power in 42 Fountain would run 110/112 mph and thats a bigger boat ,so 40 pr lookes great but 85 mph is not even in the ball park

I have to agree. I know that the 40 is a wave crusher and all that but I have a feeling a 42 beak boat with the same power would run with it in any water and crush it on calmer water. I would love to see the 399 go into production. If they spent the same time with that hull as they have with the 30, 35 and 40ol I bet the can crack the 100 mph mark with mild power. |

Skater did come to Baja for the mold because Baja has from what I understand a state of the art CNC machine for cutting the plug for the mold. They wanted a very precision hull which is what you would expect from builder like Skater. Now I have heard many different stories as to how the mold belongs to Baja but as Bobby stated yes it is at the Baja plant and yes several at Baja would love to build a new Baja 39 stepped hull. However their dilemma is how to you go from always offering a "Tru Vee" which is their trademark. I made the following suggestion for what it is worth: Market the stepped hull series as the all new Baja "Poker Run Series Boats". I.E.: Islander / Performance / Outlaw / Poker Run Series Keep all the ads the same for the true vee and have a different high performance promotion for the stepped. Certify each dealer that wants to be a "High Performance" dealer and give a required attend Tres Martin Driving School course with each boat sold. Just my opinion______________________________________________ Now is the 39 stepped hull a good boat? Yes in my opinion it is. We watched it race at Lake St. Clair and we ran with it at the Lake Cumberland Poker Run. It did run in the mid 90's with 525's but keep in mind that it is a light no frills race boat. Add 2000 + pounds and how fast will it be? Probably not over 85. But with 700's who knows? If I remember right I heard that the boat was a bat out of hell in a straight line but a real hand full in the turns. Why are they not selling? I personally think Skater priced it too high. If you go over to the Lake Cumberland website you can see a couple that have been on the market a pretty long while and you will see the resemblance to Baja especially in the cockpit and helm. The whole boating industry owes Baja a huge thank you for bringing so many of us into the performance boat world but unless Baja does something like this they will continue to loose repeat customers to those that are looking at moving into other brands for increased performance. As for a 42 Fountain that was the first twin engine boat I every drove and I have a lot of respect for what Fountain has done in recent years with their hulls, speeds and especially the interior and dash upgrades. However for a comparision the 2001 that a buddy owned with 850 blower motors and #6 drives never ran over 105 MPH. Man have they got faster in the last few years. Yes "Team Dock Holiday" gets around! Even though some sites claim to be in the KNOW:grinser010: you have to actually get out and GO. Enjoy |
Hey Doc....Do you remember the artist rendition of the 39 stepped Baja they were going to do? It had 4 seperate seats at the cockpit that were seperated in between with the deck as I recall. Niffty looking design.
What you said about the 39 skater being a handfull in the turns is what I've heard too. I'd like to see Baja build that boat but maybe tweak it slightly to run a bit better (of course that would be slower too) like lower the X, maybe not make it staggered. |

Just my opinion______________________________________________ My thoughts too, Do something along the lines of what Donzi did with their ZR line, but lets say a 35, 39, and 42 The liability exposure should be relatively low just due to the fact that you're not going to sell all that many. But, it would give us something to look up to for our next ride. We saw the Honey Party 399 Skater at the LOTO OSS races last September, it was the baddest V hull there, it looked like it was on rails, granted it was a shaft drive boat, it was very impressive, the race was over on the first lap. |
Well I'm sorry to announce that with the purchase of Baja by Fountain that the poker run tour has been cancelled from what I am being told.
I'm sure "Split Decision" will make someone a VERY nice boat as I understand that the 40 Outlaw will be no more under Fountain. |
Baja should have taken the $500,000 for it at the Miami Boat Show! Sure hate to hear this news!

This is really a very sad day for me and I'm sure that does not compare with what some of the employees are dealing with. |

Here is the article just released at 304pm
Brunswick Announces Sale of Baja Marine Assets to Fountain Powerboats 3:04p ET March 20, 2008 (PR NewsWire) Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) today announced the signing of a letter of intent to sell certain assets relating to its Baja boat business to Fountain Powerboat Industries, Inc., of Washington, N.C. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and completion of the sale is subject to certain conditions. In preparation for the transition, Brunswick plans to end production of Baja boats in Bucyrus, Ohio, by the end of May, consistent with the end of the 2008 model year. As a result of these actions, the company said it estimates that asset write-downs, along with severance and other costs associated with the plant closure, could total between $10 million to $15 million, pre-tax. "This was a strategic decision to further refine our product portfolio and best focus our resources on brands and marine segments that we believe are core to our success going forward," said Brunswick Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dustan E. McCoy. "This action in no way reflects upon Baja or the abilities and performance of the Bucyrus work force. We believe, however, that Baja and its dealers will ultimately benefit from being a part of Fountain Powerboats, a company that, like Baja, is a leader in high-performance boats." When completed, the closing of the Baja plant will mean a loss of approximately 285 positions. Baja leadership will be working diligently to transfer as many employees as possible and practical to either Fountain or other Brunswick manufacturing facilities. For those employees who do not have the opportunity or do not wish to transfer, severance will be provided. |

Well you'll love this!
I learned today that Reggie saw the light on the Poker Run tour and what a great marketing tool it is and looked into aquiring "Split Decision" and making the tour happen but Brunswick has already sold the boat! I guess Hawkeye bought it because I heard they were trying to buy the truck also. What a great opportunity lost for everyone especially during this transition period. Oh well.:( |
I have a 35 with 700's and a Duramax I will sell Reggie!!!
I will work a package deal for ya Reggie! |

Eddie, I do that now! It would just be better to do it in a bigger boat.
Like I was thinking about not doing the second leg and we were in a 35. Our mistake may have been signing up for the 70-80 group and then running with the 90 - 100 group after the owner of the 35 passed several of the groups ahead of us. Then Brett wouldn't let Lucky 7's by us when he was driving - JP was driving Lucky. |

The water at the LOTO shootout and Cumberland were comparible. The difference is that when LOTO is rough we run 35-50mph, at Cumberland our 4 hour average speed was like 89.9mph!!
Lucky did not have a prayer with me driving that day. I let them get close 3-4 times and then pulled away! JS, I cannot believe you are driving a Furd, even if it is FREE! Your d-max bros are disapointed! |
