Question Props for 33 Outlaw with HP500s

Guys,

Have spent a week with the boat and absolutely love it

The boat came with 24P B1s (not lab). Hole shot is incredible, but top end (with full fuel and 2 people) runs low 70s @ 4,900 ish.

Props seem on the small side to me.

Curious as to what any of you are running and what kind of speeds your getting.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

Well, your recommended rpm range is 4800 - 5200 rpms. So, your props aren't really that much on the small side. Lab-finishing will surely bring your rpms over 5000, maybe even 5100, but typically for absolute all-out max top-end a 3-blade usually works best.

However, the 4-blades you have on there now on the other hand are better all around. Lab 'em!

you were only 4900rpm's @ WOT? you need to be turning another 200rpm's. depending on the water and how i'll be running, i run 24P non-labbed or 26P labbed on my 33 Outlaw w/ 502's.

how was the water? smooth, choppy, rough?

what type of temps and humidity? high temps and high humidity could knock 200rpm's off easily.

Hey Dude,

I listening in here myself.

Just got to the office from dropping my 36 off at the dealer for the 20 hour service and a couple of minor repairs.

I have now run in at WOT a couple of times and have some numbers to report.

Running 500 EFI's with 4 blade 26 pitch props.

First time at WOT was just a short burst, had 12 hours on boat and only got 4600 to 4700 RPM. I now have 21 hours and Sunday with the wife and 3/4 load of fuel I got 4800-4900 RPM at 71 MPH.

Like you I am not getting all the RPM. The motors are starting to loosen up a little, and it looks like lab finishing will be the way to go. The 4-blades 26's absolutely work GREAT. Very easy out of the hole, they never blow out even on the hardest turn.

Speaking of turns, WOW, have you ever seen anything turn like these big outlaws? I am blown away. The 24 degree deadrise all the way to the bow is awesome. You can lay the rubrail down on the water and the props are pushing strong.

Keep me posted on what you do.

Thanks Mark

Default props?

Gentlemen,

I am curious, are all of you running 1.50 gears? First, if your boat is new and you are still in the break in period, I would not worry much about props or top end(especially if you are in the 4900-5200 range).

Once you break the motors in then you can start to really dial it in. The reason I asked the question about gear ratio is because I have a Baja 322 with 502's that I have worked a little(470hp on dyno) and I am turning 32 Bravo I's @ 5,000rpm, but I do run 1.65 gears. The boat has been radared(sp?) @ 76mph and runs 80mph on GPS. If I were to change to 1.50 ratio, I should still be able to turn a 28p Bravo I @ 5,000rpm. Once again I am just curious about the gear ratio for comparison sake.

By the way, the 33 & 36 outlaws are awesome, I have really been considering trading up for one.

Have a good day,

Don,

Yes I have the stock XZ Drives that are 1.50:1 ratio.

The dealer told me that the boat will probably be delivered with 28 pitch props, but it came in with 26 pitch.

I can see the RPM's coming up on the motors in just the last few hours of operation.

We have not pushed it hard at all. Trying to break it in right and make it last.

Your boat is very nice. I have seen some of the post you have on TeamBajaMarine. Don't you also have prochargers on your boat?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,

Perfect, the more time you take to break the boat in correctly the better off you will be. My guess is, by the time you are done breaking it in, you will have to move up to the 28 Bravo I's.

No, I am not running prochargers, currently I am naturally aspirated.

Have a good day,

In '98 Hot Boat tested a 33 with carbed HP 500s. According to the article the boat had 28" 4-Blade Bravo Ones. Boat ran 77.4 @ 4950 rpm. If anyones interested I could copy the article and fax it.

Don,

I have 1.50s also. My 33 is a 99, HPs have about 125 hours on them.
