Supercharged 25 outlaw
Hey Y'all,
My first post on OSO. Can you guys give me some advise on a boat I am looking at in the link below. I am very familiar with supercharged set ups on vehicles but not in boats. What do I need to look out for when looking at a boat like this? Mostly in areas of the out drive and other items. What can I expect the top speed to be on a set up like this? http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/17188 . |
Hey, welcome :D
First off i would HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that is 1000 hp. Maybe more like 550-650. The OL are nice boats. Not really to much to look for on a boat that new, other then obvious signs of cracks in the gel, other damage. Stringers and transom should be in good shape. Have to find out if the engine truly has 250 hours on it, and what paper work he has to prove this is 1000 hp. Cruise is not going to be in the 70 range. Find out what pitch prop is on the boat, we can tell you more as to the speed it will prob run. Looks to be a clean boat overall, has the external steering which is a big plus in terms of handling. Price seems to be a touch on the high end to me. John jr |
with 800lbs of boost, thing thing has to be a rocketship. :)

looks like a 496 not a 454

Clean boat ! I would see if he has a build sheet on it , prop size would give a great starting point as well. Any boat with that big of power would have paper work to verify it! The price is a tad high but not to far off the mark... survey is a must before purchase!!

If it is a 496 the 2.3 whipple will be good for 650 hp with a 5 pound pulley x2 on pulling the hours and see how hard it's been ran. And it won't cruise at 70 top speed should be low to mid 70s if its proped right and screaming

if you do decide to buy it... install a drive shower.

Just by the way the ad is written I would run. The guy is definitely a screwball, and most likely has no real mechanical knowledge of boats, which makes for a real scary previous owner. It's one think to exaggerate the speed, but to not know the displacement, boost, or HP just scares me. Every once in a while I meet someone with this disease in the boating world, even worse in the winter when you can't shut them up or prove them wrong.

+ 1 I was just waiting on someone else to "say it". Just from reading the ad, I wouldn't even consider the boat. When the process starts out that phucked up, (he doesn't have a clue) it can only get worse from there.
