My 25 outlaw was 496 mag 375hp with procharger 6psi. Boat ran low 70s seen 77mph once but she really liked to chine walk at that speed unless I dragged tab to keep under control and that brought boat back to low 70s. My budget was pretty tight back then did not have good tabs or extension box and was just add on hydraulic steering not full hydraulic to the helm. I put 300 hard hours on that set up with no issues. Was even stock bravo drive! Not even bravo x drive. I think running drive so deep in water really saves drives and made it live. I sold boat with ruffly 325 hours on it and ran into the boat 3 years latter with 400 hours on boat and still no issues. In 2002 Oshkosh Thunder poker run I was boat number 101. Had that baby chining the wakes that day! Hope to see ya at Four Horseman....

Cool, sounds like fun. Thanks for sharing. You're probably right about the bravo being deeper, trade off to save the drive or reduce drag and find more speed. Come find us at the poker run, it's all about meeting cool people and having fun

Wow, great work bud. Such a cool thread to get us through the end of winter and into spring/summer. If you ever sell please let me know as I love both the color scheme and this setup. I can't wait to see results as I'm sure you can't either!

Thanks TBAG, really appreciate it. Feels like I'm not getting anywhere tho. Parts and pieces keep showing up but it's like I can't put any of them to use yet. Hopefully within a month a lot will get done. Yes, eager to would be an understatement.

Small amounts of progress made today. Cleaned rtv off intake manifold, intercooler, and intercooler spacer. Whomever put this together is a believer in rtv.

Now why does my wife laugh when I say I polished my Whipple real good?

Or that I Brazilian (carnuba) waxed my Whipple and that it's ribbed for our pleasure?

Or that I had a tough time finding somewhere safe to stick my huge lower unit for the time being?

More disturbing is picture orientation on this forum

Got the bores measured. They're actually 4.5" bores. 4" stroke. So it's actually a 509 not a 502. Not much of a difference but good to know. Using known figures and estimated ones I get a compression ratio of around 7.70:1 (stock Mercury 525efi comp ratio is 8.75:1). Not exactly sure of the combustion chamber cc but I'm pretty sure they're right around 120-124cc. Also not sure of the dish in the piston but I'm using the -20cc suggested my mild thunder.

Goodwin competition has the heads resurfaced and cleaned. Anymore suggestions of things I should check out before I drop the heads back on?

Just the obvious such as sea pumps, SC oil change etc.

Lots of good work here IGW. Should be a lot of fun.

Thanks Dan. Just put roughly 6.8oz of fresh Castro sytec 5w-50 in the blower.

I have a question regarding valve seals maybe someone around here can answer. While lapping valves I had to put the valves in and take them out couple of times which ended up damaging a couple of the blue intake seals. The intake seals are tighter than the exhaust seals. Intakes seals are blue in color vs the exhaust red. I've seen different color valve seals on heads in the past but don't recall them being different stem diameters, thought they were different colors for heat reasons. These stems, intake and exhaust are 3/8, .375". Did they put 11/32 stem seal diameter on the intakes to wipe better? Or are the exhaust seals slightly bigger to allow more oil into the guide? Want to make sure I replace them with the right ones. I'll probably call my local builder tomorrow but part of this thread is for others to learn as well.

All the shops I talked to never heard of putting a smaller diameter seal on but I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the builder here did. So I decided just to replace all 16 with comp 515-16. When comparing the old small intake seals to the new ones you could just barely see a difference in size

Lapped the valves while they were out. Seats all look good.

Heads are all back together now ready to go on. The boat is home from getting some gel coat work done. Real progress should be happening soon.

The exhaust seals may have been larger to allow extra oil to the exhaust guides. I run the standard size seal, but remove the spring off them on the exhaust valves
