I have found it better starting with a less pitch prop. Knowing you can spin it to top rpm range you want. Then Trying different blade shapes and configurations. Then work your way up as needed. Starting too big and knocking them down is not the best way to do it. A lot of times they cut the diameter and you lose what the overall shape and changes the way it handles. Get it handling and bow where you want it and then bring the speed. I rather have a. Oat that handles great in different waters than fast that can't be used unless perfect conditions. Also with the hp you have it's not uncommon to have a few different props for different water conditions. There is not a perfect prop for all.

Well I started off going by what some 25 outlaws were spinning, and we figured if you can't spin a higher pitch at least you would know how many rpms below the target range you are and can step down pitches based on that. Either way gets it done. The SCX makes my boat a different animal in this case.

Ran my labbed 30 bravo yesterday. 84mph was the best I got, bumped the limiter a couple times. It wasn't the easiest to watch rpm because of the lack of control of the 4 blade, had to keep eyes on the water. I was able to get a decent amount of trim reaction as well, better than I remembered. So I think a labbed 28 Maximus would be the ticket. Cruising speed vs rpm sucks with the bravo too unfortunately, about 10 mph lower than a 28 stock maximus.

You definitely have a different animal with the SCX. On the Bravo 33 OL with boxes, the diameter of the Maximus was just too much. It liked the P-5X's much better. Great at cruise but just wouldn't carry the bow.

Yea it's strange that the Maximus worked so well for me as far as the bow lift goes. The guys at Bblades were pretty surprised too because the Maximus usually adds too much stearn lift. The P5x wasn't bad, just not as good as the max. I might have to get back out by them and run the same props now that the bypass leak is fixed.

Testing thus far has shown me that it's not the height of the drive creating the slip so much as the diameter of the scx lower.

You need to try a smaller
diameter max that has the blades
propey shaped and the diffuser cut down

Yea that is the plan. Bblades cuts them down to 15.25 and removes a lot of the barrel as well, sometimes adding up to another 500rpm. Just need to get in the ball of what pitch first

so how much of an anvil behind the boat does the SCX feel like compared to the smaller Bravo and the Bravo is less weight as well.

Hard to say how different the drive alone feels because of the other changes that were made in the off season (heavier motor, much more power). Handling characteristics are great so far. No doubt it takes more power to turn but the piece of mind knowing that the drive will handle just about anything I could do to it pretty much makes up for that. After more dialing in I should be within a few mph of my goal of 90mph. The drive probably should be a little higher out of the water as well to reduce the amount of anvil in the water. And I'll admit I over looked the added drag and power to turn the drive when I set that goal.... there's probably more guys running scx upper with the SC lower on their fast singles, which from what I hear seems to be a pretty reliable option. I think the key to the full scx is having it high enough out of the water.

I'd share some photos but now it says I need to upgrade my membership from platinum even to share Photobucket pics.

Cant Brett lab some of the bad characteristics out of the Bravo?

Also, there are tons of things a prop shop can do to the Maximus too, cut it down, cut the ring off, I believe they can shape the blades slightly different too. Bottom line, the Maximus can be labbed to get pretty close to the Bravo. Can you go higher on prop shaft height? You might get the Maximus to run better if you go higher...

Keep trying stuff. You are getting there. 84 MPH doesnt suck! LOL

wonder if you did not use the extension box and mounted the SCX with the transom assembly ONLY what would be the results ?
