I don't think I'd do it...but if I did, I would ditch those grade 5 and put some grade 8 bolts in...less prone to bend. My biggest concern however, is the aluminum threads.

Shoot Eddie Young a PM and asks how he rigs up strapping to install his Whipple'd mills.

IGetWet 03-08-2017 03:03 PM

Called Eddie young marine. They said if you can get the headers on in the boat picking it this way is fine, otherwise the said they pick them by the headers as well. So I lifted her a couple inches off the floor, seemed to work pretty good.

Scx 1300 lower arrived yesterday.

Too bad it came with a surprise on the skeg :(. After I saw it I immediately went through the pictures and realized I only got pictures of one side.

There's also another good scratch about an inch long on the torpedo. I should be able to get these out, just too bad people have to deal like this. This is why I buy new when I can.

That's disappointing. Is that the one that was on sale here on OSO?

Your certainly doing this right. Very impressive.

IGetWet 03-10-2017 01:55 PM

Thanks BD. Yes it is the one that was listed for sale on here. The user who listed it, panther, listed it for his customer who I bought it from.

I am happy I'll be able to leap frog the bravo blues part of my boating life. But, I really hope the end of this thread doesn't turn out to be another "scrubbing too much speed with scx" story.

Sorry to see this. Little bit of time and you should be able to blend that in without too much fanfare, as long as its not too deep. Sucks the sale wasnt forthcoming, have you contacted the lister? Even if it was a 3rd party maybe they could get you a few bucks for your trouble, since you say it was their customer. Anyways, good start to your project suspense must be killing you.

IGetWet 03-10-2017 02:14 PM

I was working with and bought from the owner, panther just gave me his number. Unfortunately this is part of buying used sometimes. Just another example of why it's just fine to be overly cautious when buying used parts when you can't inspect them yourself. Don't get me started on the imco transom assembly I bought last season....

Suspense and WEATHER is killing me. Single digit wind chills today. If I ever meet Mother Nature, I'm going to kick her straight in the nuts. Oh yea she's got nuts after the stuff she's pulled over the years.

Devils Advocate: Are you sure it didn't happen during shipping? That only appears to be cosmetic, no? Run er up on the sandbar a few times, she'll buff right out. lol. Seriously though, a roloc wheel with some scotchbrite material should blend that in no problem.

Anyway, I love this build. I'm a huge sleeper fan. See you at 4 Horsemen?

IGetWet 03-10-2017 03:27 PM

Yea I know I can get it out, but it's more than just cosmetic. I will have to remove more material than just sanding to get it out, maybe heavy sanding, then I'm creating a low spot. 100% it didn't happen during shipping. The company that packaged it up did a great job. The fact of the matter is this is another case of people listing something as new or almost new or perfect when that's not the case. I suppose the damage could've happened transporting it to the shipping company, where the skeg could've been bouncing or rubbing on something in a vehicle. Moving on

Yes we'll be at the 4 horsemen. Warm your engines party at the end of March in oshkosh as well. What color is your sunny?
