Gain 1.5mph for $50.00

I was able to get the boat out today to find out if the Mobil-1 gear oil got me any additional speed. Today was 90+/- degrees outside. I made one WOT run on dead-flat water and saw 78.6 mph on my GPS. This is the exact speed I saw a couple weeks ago following my change to full synthetic engine oil (that day was also 90+/-). I can conclude that the Mobil-1 gear oil by itself gained me nothing. I’m still confident that I can break 79mph when air temps get back down into the 70’s next month. Breaking 79mph of coarse is just for bragging rights since 80% of the days out on the water in Southern Maryland are 90+ degrees.

My Innovation motor came with Castrol Syntec 5W-50 synthetic oil.
Also, Whipple superchargers uses and only recommends the Castrol 5W-50 syn oil.
As far as the Mobil 1 75-90 syn gear oil. This is what Volvo uses in their DPX drives.

If I were in Texas a running in heat for 6 months of the year, I would definitely go with a 20W50. That is just my opinion though. I use Mobile 1 20w50 full synthetic.
Just keep it changed!!

I think the final results are in. Today we had a cool day in the mid 70’s. Saw 79.3mph on the GPS. I’m happy since I was able to break 79 but I didn’t quite gain the 1.5 as advertised. Previous best with dino fluids was 78.3 so I gained exactly 1mph. Still, 79.3 with stock black engines vs. blue ones, is pretty good. I’m sure I could easily see 80+ with reprogrammed ECU's. For me personally, this raises the bar another notch for the 30 Outlaw. As far as I’m concerned, 30 O/L’s are going to need to run 84-85 with stock black engines in order to make it worth my while.
