Question Baja wants to "fix" the hull of my Boat, what should I do??

I finally got Baja to come and look at my boat. They have allready done some "minor adjusting" (ie adding 2 inches to a strake on one side and sanding out a 1/8 hook in the other) to the hull but the boat still lists to one side.

They want to take it back to the factory and do some more "adjusting". I bought the boat new and they seem to think that refiting the hull of the boat does not lessen the value of it. I think that I should get some type of compensation for their mistake. I didn't know I was getting a scratch and dent boat --- I thought I was getting new boat.

Sorry for the rant but I have been dealing with this problem for over a year. Please write back with what you think I should do and if you think Baja owes me anything.

Thanks,

Aaron

PS. For those of you who don't know I have a 2001 302 w/ 454 mpi mags. I bought it new last year.

I think they owe you a new hull. What a story.

I think I would fight real hard to have my boat replaced! I heard a powerquest story about having the entire hull replaced at no charge. I think Baja should stand behind there warranty an deliver you something thaht fits with big$$$$$$$$$ you spend at B-brand!

****, that's not a bicycle!

Good luck.

They should replace the hull....PERIOD.

You did not buy the boat to have it pieced together for a year later. They need to step up and do the right thing and give you the new hull and then consult thier quality control specialist.

Good luck, no one deserve to deal with that mess.

I really hate to hear about the problems you have.

The replies you have received seem to indicate that everyone thinks it should be replaced. I agree with them, but getting that will probably be hard.

I don't know for sure how Baja words their warranty, but most manufacturers have the right to repair or replace as they see fit.

With boats I personally to not find the repair issue to big a big problem other than the time it takes.

I think I would have a real good sit down with them and make sure exactly what they are going to do and exactly what you expect up front. Let them know if that is not acheived that you will expect a new hull.

I know Baja has some very talented people up there. I would look at this as a positive. Get them to do a real hull blue print and you should end up with a fast boat.

People spend big dollars on all makes of boats to do this and you should be able to get Baja to step up to the plate and make you happy so they can get some good PR.

Funny, but in America we seem to miss a great opportunity to prove what kind of company we are. When ther is a problem we should jump all over it to show the customer that we really appreciate their business and want them back.

Please keep us posted. I am very interested to hear what happens.

One last thing, we met a guy from New York two years ago that had either a 98 or 99, 36 Outlaw that Baja had completely relpaced the hull on. I do not remember what the problem was, it may have had to do with blisters, but he sent it back, they pulled the top off, took out everything and dropped it into a new hull and put the top back on. He was very happy!

I talked to baja today they want to repair it. I tried to get them to take the boat back on trade and they won't do that. I am not sure what I am going to do. I have been looking a a Sonic 31ss but I don't know who will trade a boat that is effed up like mine. I hate to buy another brand but the way baja has treated me I am very reluctant to buy another one of their boats and I live on 30 miles from their factory!!!!

I am very resistent to having baja repair the boat. They have blatently lied to me at least 3 times during this whole ordeal about fixing the other problems that I have had with the boat. I am really concened that they will not uphold their end of the bargin -- even if I do get it in writing. I have their warrenty in writing and I have fought them just to get a phone call back.

Well that all for now I'll keep you updated..

You may want to get the attorney general in your area involved. In NY dmv has a complaint department for all motor vehicles. They usually can get it resolved thru your dealer.
Hope this helps.

I think you should get a new hull,
after all, you didn't order it with
all the "bends" in it.

Tell the Baja guys you've
posted this on OSO, maybe that
might get their attention.

Have Baja take your motors, interior & put in a new hull. That hull must have major problems for them to make those minor adjustments & that not fix the listing. Remind Baja this is a performance boat, not a cruiser. When your boat is 10 years old & the patch comes off you are going to have a hell of a time getting them to listen to you then. Or sell it to someone else when they look at the underside & do not see both sides the same. You have lost major value of your boat already with them making these minor patches.

I know a guy that had a major hull problem & bayliner replace the hull.
