3 days of fiberglass hell.

I have fix every little crack and hole in the transom and motor well of my boat.

Painted yesterday. Came out okay. It will have to do for now.

Mounted the jack plate today. Looks great.

V8 going on tomorrow night....

No lifting ring, so wish me luck...

Default MrV8 to the rescue

Thanks for the lifting ring.

Just picked it up. I had actually met the guy you lent it to last summer. I was parked next to his Scarab Sport on a beach one day....small world.

While I was there I met "Whosnext".

Very nice guy.

Very nice boat.

My spirits are high again. MrV8 is helping me locate a primer pump and a prop....Thanks you for that...

In the meantime I spent the last two hours dragging a 550lb V8 outboard out of my garage and on to a utility trailer using nothing but (1) floor jack and two straps...yikes...

Motor is getting mounted tomorrow night!!!

Default Operation V8 a go...

Last night was a late one.

Jumped out of the airplane, grabbed the engine hoist from work and headed over to the marina.

Thanks to the lifting ring I borrowed from MrV8, the beast of an outboard popped right out of the utility trailer. A crowd of marina people including all the on duty marina employees, then began to gather around my first time engine hoisting demonstration.

"What the hell is that thang??", "Dam is that Chevy 454 mounted vertical?" "Never seen one like that?" "Is your boat gonna sink?".

The motor went right on with no problems. I had to run to the marine hardware store before it closed to get new engine bolts (my old bolts were #5's and I wanted #8's).

It was a late night, but well worth it.

In the past I have always felt that I had a performance boat with a fishing boat motor. Now the package is complete. The motor looks really cool with the hydraulic scissor jack plate.

Next step is the rigging.....yikes....

I took about 10 pics tonight.

I will post them once I get them developed and scanned.

(I think I'm the only tool left in the world with out a digital camera... )

I think I have consumed about 7 pots of coffe a day over the last week trying to get my boat ready....

She looks good, but is not finished yet. Aft 1/2 sunpad hatch is not on the boat anymore. I think it is in the woods somewhere behind the marina... I have a lovely wound on my index finger from my dremel tool....

Motor is on, all electrical connections are done. Batteries are charged and the engine cranks. Havent started it yet.

Twin hydraulic steering rams looked weathered so I refurbished them prior to installing. I completed the new hydraulic steering lines and fittings to go from two lines to four yesterday....(thanks for your help Banana''s). Still have to purge it of air.

Controls are installed, but definately chappyrigged...
After jamming all the wires and the shifter cable through the hull liner, I realized the shifter cable is 1 foot too short... I have a spare, but I will have to change it out tonight after the racer / patrol boat dinner.

Throttle cable and prop arrive today UPS next day air, then I am off to Cape Cod.

I am going to pick up a fuel line and primer bulb on the way and drive directly to Jeb's (MrV8outboard) house and basically collapse on his lawn.

He is going to inspect my work and either help me finish it or tell me to give up and watch the races from the beach...

If anybody is going to the races, give me a call on Saturday so we can get together.

Friday I will be pulling what is left of my hair out...
