They can obviously use some twisted logic like that. They ask about your history of making claims, they look at your driving record. But credit rating shouldn't matter.

credit rating shows responsibility. the more responsible someone is the less chance of them doing something stupid resulting in a claim.

True or I would have had insurance to cover it. But you are right better credit does show better responsibiliy and to be frank bad credit probably means you cant pay your bills. I think its a crock but I can see why too.

My question is if you owned an insurance company what would be your criteria when issueing polices?

i dont know all of the facts as im sure you dont either but why would you ever buy/accept a car without a title, car fax, etc.

a little research goes a long way nowadays.
