Had a customer call me 3 years after buying one to tell me his won't work - bad cell in it. Could have told him sorry 'bout yer luck, but offered to sell him a replacement at our cost and ship it free. Instead, he orders another one from the site, we ship it, and a week later he files a "not as described" claim with PayPal and SENDS BACK THE OLD ONE. These things have serial numbers on them, and it was obvious that he had opened the case on it, so we sent PayPal a bunch of pictures to document our case, along with screen images to show that he had bought one 3 years ago and was shipping back the old one. Didn't matter - PayPal ruled in his favor. We do $70K plus per year through PP with NO other claims besides this one. Doesn't matter - PP is totally tilted in the buyer's favor. And good luck trying to communicate with an actual human being at PP - if you do, they will be in New Delhi.
Major credit cards are almost as bad if you are the retailer. It is so easy for customers to file a chargeback basically on a whim. Unfortunately it almost always is ruled in their favor, and the retailer is on the hook. It's no big deal if you are a huge corporation like WalMart, but for little guys like me, it's like death by a thousand daggers. |

Basically any form of online purchasing/selling has its merit to be screwed. Hell in person people get screwed. It sucks, it's part of life and it will happen to all of us at some point. With a forum like this a lot of that is minimized. Yes it does happen but I bet nowhere near as often as places like eBay and cl. I like PayPal and will continue to use it. Stories like this is how we know who to avoid.
It is easy to knock Paypal but not so easy to design a better/fairer system for making payments. Bring back "your word is your bond" and "your handshake is a done deal". |

In my dispute I found Paypal's resolution system to be fair to both parties. In my case Paypal found in my favour. I gave the seller the opportunity to cover the cost of return and I would send it back. I believe that was the right thing to do.

You don't need to use PAYPAL to get screwed. Some people just think it is OK to tell you to fix there furnace and then not pay. And once you leave there house there isn't much that you can do.

Phukkins go on every day in all walks of life, but that still doesn't make it right. Douchbags will always try to work the system to they're advantage.

The problem is he is in the military in Texas. ( Captain Dunn ) He owned a house here in Grand Rapids that last January lost it's heat when it was VERY cold. He has since sold the house. Anyway his handyman couldn't fix it so Captain Dunn authorized the handyman to hire me on his behalf. I fixed the furnace to the tune of $599. He refuses to pay the bill. If he lived here I would F with him. I would like to find out who his CO is and give him a call. I didn't know that the armed forces thought it was OK to steal from people.

Alright here is my 2 cents , oso is the the place for knowledge , and buying and selling hard to find parts , from people that actually have a clue about their history , what they do what they fit and life expectancy ect ect ,bought and sold here so far all is well .....BUT ....if I'm buying or selling and the other person doesn't want to provide a cell phone number for further communication, it ends right there . That's why we have eBay . But same rules apply there on select items , anything with a remotepossibilityof being a flopshow gets sold.in a way I can text the buyer .jusa hard to finmerc 3.0 lower to a guy cost me 80 $ to ship ,he was never going toia text .otherwise known as instant commminication, even if I am busy doing somet

As I was saying . If I was texting this message I would also be enjoying my dinner while watching the news instead of wondering why this little Verizon wonderphone couldnt do what I wanted it to do .but it does text ,both quickly and flawlessly

Ok , reread I think I ciphered it. Sorry.

If you where gone then maybe you missed pay pals call. They will try to contact you and it's usually a 402 area code. Sold ps4 when came out and lady tried to say it wasn't new which I had pics and receipt from when I bought 8 of them . They released funds after talking to me and told her to eat crow. Your negative is them usually puttin on hold. And their acct too is on hold.

Ive always done Paypal but Ive heard some bad stories. Im thinking of setting up a personal account to accept credit cards. Fees are similar to pay Lamepal but much harder to get hosed.
I have QuickPay thru Chase that works really well too if both parties have Chase. I use this one for my business: http://payments.intuit.com/mobile-cr...rd-processing/ This one is popular: https://squareup.com/ (took 5 minutes to set up) |

Inverer responce
Just saw this today. So, no-one knows the facts, but everyone save for one member feels the need to condemn me as a bad OSO member. I'm my feeble defense, I have 150 + %100 positive ebay transactions , and several on here, should anyone choose to speak up.( Ebay is dedin14409) Fact is, commander may be a great guy to you, but not on this deal. I saved the PM's between us as the deal started going bad from the get go. Yes , after the commander was offline for about 2 WEEKS,and no response, I filed a claim with paypal to protect myself, figuring I would cancel it if / when he refunded . The paypal claim has since expired, which released his $200 back to his account ,something which he failed to mention in these 6 pages of Daleroger bashing. So, now he has it all, the control panel ( he says ), my $200, and 6 pages of yea ! commander what and azz daleroger is. . I saved all the pm's between us and they are copied below, if your concerned about what really occurred. I do offer you this. I will sell this " NIB in inverter " to anyone on here that needs an inverter. $200 is what I paid, AND I'll pay the shipping. I just won't pay more money back to him , because he should make it right. Yes, he said return it, but I don't know the guy, I trusted him after seeking what, 173 likes ?? After below, would you trust him ?
edit ; I just reread his first crazy post. Answer is; I never had his money back, when you file for a resolution, they put a hold on the sellers funds. Apparently you have 20 days to make it a claim, or it expires. You can cancel it at anytime before that. He never responded to them ( paypal ), and I let it lapse. He has the money. 09-28-2014 11:58 AM --> Folder : Sent Items From : daleroger To : commandersander Date : 2014-08-24 10:32 Title : inverter Price to Erie Pa 16509, I can paypal or whatever. You stated it was never installed, and new in box. Well, it's filthy, full of sand and dirt, and the control panel is not there. I hooked it up to a 12 v battery, and it doesn't do anything. It is doa,. Maybe because there is no control panel ? Who knows. I am requesting a refund of my $200, and a shipping amount if you want it returned. If not, I will toss it. It was misrepresented as new in box, and we both know it's not. I could look past the dirt, and the fact it's 8 years old if it was complete, and worked. I am doing this privately to give you a chance to make it right. Please respond privately, and we'll see where it goes from there.Hopefully, you make it right, and we're done. Send me the 200. and 25 for return shipping, and we are a done deal. My paypal is [email protected]. This is not my bad. I bought it in good faith, and you sent me an incomplete, non-working inverter. I'm not being unreasonable . Anyone on OSO that received this would not be happy, to say the least. Or, send me the control panel, your dime, if it works, we're done. If not, same deal on return / refund. All I want out of this is what I paid for, an inverter that woks. Ship it back and I refund. or.... Approve shipment of the control panel, and I will. You continuously state that you are doing this in private.....giving me a chance.....going out of your way.... Relax. Take option one, or two. I don't care either way. You made a case with paypal before you EVER contacted me with an issue......meaning.....the two hundred is already gone from this side.....and shipping.....and the inverter..... So I'm out 235 cash plus the part. Are you looking for sympathy from me? If yes, wrong door. Try the next one. I said " ship it out on Monday, with a tracking number " You said, "Just seeing this.....Out of town tomorrow......sending Wednesday......with photo as before " Read it . You were not online for 2 weeks after the deal, there was no way to contact you. I figured anyone that would send that out as NIB, would be a problem, and you are. As I said before, and now again, I won't send it back until I get my money refunded . I told you to ship the panel ( SEE ABOVE ). If it's a pos , .please keep it there, as I will still want my money back if it doesn't work. If you're confident the thing will work, sent it out. YOUR tired of me, now that's funny. Thanks, Dale |
Always three sides to any story as they say :drink:
|
well I can say this if I had a problem with any member on here # 1 I would not file a complaint without speaking to the seller first ...after all this is not ebay its a small community of guys that pretty much know each other mainly by talking to each other and offering advice and sometimes selling parts .so stiffing a guy with a bad part is hardly worth your name on here
# 2 I sell a lot on ebay mainly Harley parts well over $130.000 this year so I know how the system works ..I hate when pay pal gets involved they usually side with the buyer ive been there .so im sure when pay pal got involved he figured he was done (I know the feeling ) plus he says he was out of town at 1 point # 3 the right thing would have been get his # and give him a call and work it out over the phone ..hell with rich ill bet you guys would have been talking for hours boats and such # 4 now im no commander sander cheerleader by any means .however he has bought parts from me I remember him buying power bolster seats from me said he would take them give me your bank of America acct # and ill make a dep in your acct he set up shipping told me take your time getting it ready for p/u . another time he had an item on here for sale I wanted. however he needed some hyd steering parts and he knows I part boats so he shipped the part to me with the thought we would swap some stuff however I never got any ..he waited a year never asked once for his $450.00 until he recently parted out his 357 himself . you will find rich is a man of principle not a guy out to rip you off for a lousy $200 so I say give rich a call straighten it out put it in the past just my 2 cents rant over |
Deals like this are what make me apprehensive of forum swap shop purchases and especially sales.
3rd party escrow services will always place priority to the buyer as it should be. But, and this is a big but, they don't know when the buyer is stretching the truth and the payment is stopped. Then the burden of proof is up to the seller. I was burned once and that was all it took. I slammed him on the board and flushed a couple of Benjies as a lesson learned. MF'r got what he stole from me for free even though it was completely as described w/pics on the thread. I could still utilize the service as a buyer but refuse to as it would be wrong to be so one sided that to protect myself I use it only for protection from my seller. I won't pick sides here but if an older NIB product came to me and was dirty, missing parts, and appeared to have been previously installed I'd have done the same by stopping the funding of the seller until resolved. I sincerely hope you gentleman work this out. See ya, Kelly |
Ok, I NEVER HAD THE $200 that Rich keeps saying I had. All I have, is a DOA inverter that is not complete and doesn't work. A paypal was filed when I saw the item was clearly incomplete, and not NIB as advertised. HE WAS NOT AROUND FOR 2 WEEKS TO CONTACT . They ( paypal ) HOLD funds and encourage the parties to work it out. When they do, they release the HOLD. If you ADVANCE the resolution and request to a CLAIM, they ( PAYPAL ), make the decision who gets what. This resolution was allowed to EXPIRE . Had I allowed it to advance and won back MY $200, I would certainly sent him back his inverter. If you take as much time to read the narrative between us, as you have to treat me like ****, perhaps you would understand. There were around 50 responses to Riches bashing post. Around 20 didn't get it, and all the rest said I am the azz, avoid the guy, commander got screwed ect ect. HE SOLD ME A NON WORKING, IMCOMPLETE ITEM, AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK. How in the hell is that my bad ??? Rick Sander has my $200, and you don't see any attempt on his part here or anywhere else to make it right. He just keeps stating I stole from him, and you all buy it. Thanks to the guys ( all 2 of you ) that responded as a voice of reason, instead of blind bashing, without knowing the facts. If you bother to read the pm's, Rick is not an innocent angel on this deal. He forgot, or won't admit he said he was going to send out the control panel, and never did. ( read it ) What surprises me the most is that 50 people responded to the bashing, and only a couple, after the facts of the deal were posted. If the thing were even close to NIB , I would pay the return shipping, but it's SO bad. It just doesn't sit as fair with me.
|
Just met Rich a couple weeks ago, but I bet if you let anger aside, called him on the phone and worked it out privately, you both could consider it a win.
|
No dog in this fight, but he shouldn't have to call the guy and beg him to make it right. I bought my last boat sight unseen and never spoke with the broker or owner on the phone. This isn't 1950s anymore, leverage technology
For me, it is simple, refund his money and he sends the unit back...easy. All this BS does is cause more people not to want to sell and more not to want to buy. Sad. |
Thanks for being a voice of reason. Refund the money, and I send the unit back .
It has always been that simple. Thanks, Dale |

I hate reading threads like this and the others like it. It does way on my mind when I'm searching. It's just that we all like good deals and never hear about the good transactions. I've been blessed as the few things I've bought and sold on this board have been solid. I'm certain that y'all can work this out. See ya Kelly |

Its a civil matter, Work it out or take it to civil court. Its not a police matter. |
This site by far has more deals gone bad than any other site I have frequented over the years that I have bought/sold parts on. I've bought/ sold a couple of small ticket items on this site without issue. I have to say I would not buy/sell any larger ticket items. Too many donkey punches in the ol' brown eye. I also take all this, "he's a great guy" chatter with a grain of salt. Anyone that has been around for 10 or more years knows there have been several "he's a great guy" guys that in the end were anything but great guys. Not saying that is the case here as I know neither party. A handful of guys saying someone is great doesn't mean shat in my book. A person's actions dictate my views on said person.
Hope this all gets resolved to everyone's satisfaction soon. |
He may be great guy, but he still has my $200, and I have his " NIB Xantrex Inverter".. If one of you bashers need an inverter, $200 shipped.
IT"S SIMPLE RICH, REFUND MY MONEY, I SEND YOU BACK THE INVERTER, we're done. |
That sounds like the solution to me instead of bashing or taking sides, Its really simple.

Some states will enforce ( Theft of services ) Michigan will not.
If I walk into the local electronics store and walk out with a new TV I will be arrested and end up in jail. If a person calls me up and wants me to fix there furnace to the tune of $ 599 and then tell me to stick the bill. And the police will do nothing. I have to waste more time and money to take him to court and then go back to court to TRY to get money out of him after I win a judgment. |
