Sydwayz description is spot on.
I learned that same maneuvering technique as a young lad. By age 15 I could dock a 45' boat in a 50' slip between other boats without anyone on the dock touching a line. Practice on a long outside slip until you get comfortable with it. Also practice pulling away using the same technique while at it.
There is a down side to mastering this technique. I find myself struggling with a 20' single engine boat, look like a total novice sometimes...

All of this advice is great.....but there is only one thing that you really need to know.
Never go faster than you are willing to hit anything while attempting to dock. This ends today's lesson

I just went from a single engine 28 Shockwave to an F302 Formula with twins. Still learning; but to get it right in your head...Think of a bicycle or motorcycle handlebars. To turn left, the right hand throttle goes forward, the left hand back. To spin right, the left goes forward the right goes back. Play with that.

Disappointing too! No matter how hard fast I run up on those rocks, nor how hard I ram another boat; NOBODY sinks or blows up! Boo! At least with the King of Shaves goofy analog game a few years ago you could flip the boat over!

One of the first things I worked on was were the piviot point of the boat is. Another issue with my boat with 2 speed trannys in it is that reverse and first are different ratios 2nd is also way different. Eventually found using first, second and reverse manuvering around the docks worked out. Funny part is in first or reverse reving the engine up still moving like a snail people thing your halling a$$ and look around expecting an accedent or breaking the no wake limit.
