Any pics of your 283??? And where do you boat?
I live in Michigan. Where are you???
I was told the 281 is more narrow than a 283.

The 281 is like the 251 like I had. Narrow and fast. And the 283 is like the 253. A little slower but very solid. And I have three buddy's with 253 boats. I have two buddy's with 283 but with singles. And they run great. They have very big motors in their boats. When I say big singles I mean big like 588 tall decks. They run in the 90's. Very nice boats.

I have a 97 283 Convinser with twin 502 MPIs (not for sale). I purchased the boat this past winter and have only used it 5 - 6 times but it is a lot of fun. It will run 80 MPH with completly stock power. The only negative things I have noticed about the twin engine 28 footer is the very high bow while idleing in the Grand Haven channel and it is sensitive to trim at high speeds (the boat has the chincy mercruiser electric trim gauges and they are not accurate enough to use for accurate drive trimming). Unless the drives are exacty trimmed even the boat chine walks above 75 MPH. I was told external steering will also help the high speed stability (purchased but not yet installed). Anyway, there was a 303 with 500s and hyd steering on a trailer for sale for @ 2 years on traderonline.com. I believe it was in Maryland and the last price I saw was @ $53K. Havent looked latley but it was advertised on and off (I may have a phone number in my boat search file). There was also a 99 283 for sale out of Texas with 454 385 HP MPIs, very low hours (140?) with Hyd steering. It was tested by Hot Boat Mag in 1999. This boats price has fluctuated alot $49K - $57K. I may have a number for this also if you cannot find an ad. It took a long time to find the boat for me so good luck with your search.

Thanks guys for all your help.

Inspector, you boat out of Grand Haven. Have you had any problems with the cops, about your noise. The new noise laws, for Grand Haven and Spring Lake. They are making it bad for everyone with a performance boat.

I have seen a LOT of stops this year by both the Coasties and the Sheriffs. Has the noise law changed in recent history? I have not been stopped this year (this boat has silent choice) but in 1993 I received a noise ticket and it was easily beaten in court as the Sheriff did not follow the SAE procedure for noise measurement. Good luck in your search...

We've got a nice 1999 283 Convincer with 454 Mags on consignment. Asking 56k, but will consider all offers. Give me a call 830 6935591 if interested.
