I'd think it should be around 65mph top speed

I agree, mid to upper 60's. If it had the notched transom, it would be a solid 70mph boat.

It will run 68 gps. I had a 95 with the hp500. Really good boat, much better balanced than the 253, awesome cockpit size for a 30ft boat, good usable cabin. It does a good job in the rough water and you can tow it with a half ton.

I see the hatch lid has a procharger decal on it. I wonder if there was one on that motor?

Good find on the decal. I also noticed an intercooler dump above the drive. This boat was supercharged at some point. Still a great boat just might want to have the drive and motor thoroughly inspected. Checkmate makes a great boat.
