All the brands lose at about the same rate unless someone buys new and it is a nasty looking one-off type deal and they take it in the cheeks harder....

Just read some more of this thread. If the TG was priced right it sold in less than a month. If it is a standard boat, not big power/ rare edition then it should sell fast.
Any boat that is 6 weeks into advertising and not sold is priced too high. ASG's 03 38 575 boat just sold after over a year on the market at 205K tells me it was not priced to sell in the current market. Odd boats like Lucky Strike (being a race boat with history don't figure into this equation) but any other 35-38-39-42 Cigarette should be sold in short order if it is priced right. The OSO Gladiator sold in a few months even as a project boat/ no power. 02-03 TG's are not 200K boats anymore when owners are ASKING 250-275K for 04/05 boats. Reality checks are in order for a few owners when they check what the trade values are on these boats.
OL's are limited production but fall into the Rolls Royce category (if you can afford them, then you can afford a new one) and Fountains are too mass produced for strong resales because the huge amount of dealers willing to discount destroys the resale of used boats. I have a good friend with a 40 hour 03 42 Lightning with 575's that still has the fantasy his boat is worth 200K. I have argued I can buy a new 42 for 220K with 525's that will be just as fast and more reliable. He thinks that due to the low hours the boat is irreplaceable as do several others with low hour 4-5-8-10 year old boats.
The trade values/ loan values on these high volume boats indicates some lower values.
Berns29 said it a while back, you make money when you buy it not when you sell it.

That money will buy you an Ex. A new 42 Lightning with
that power will run North of 325K. Get it straight......
Lightning & Executioner are 2 completly different
prices. Its like comparing a regular vette and a ZR1.

Money lost is money lost. Weather you buy a O.L for 700k and
sell it for 500k, a Cig for 500k and sell it for 325K or buy a Fountain
for 220K and sell it for 185K ...well you all took a beatin.
Percentage wise they are all about the same. Dollar wise..
I'll take the Fountain.

You can buy any 42 Lightning or Ex with 525's for under 300k for the last three years. They do run on the same hull. So I guess the price of the ex is telling you how much you are getting ripped off buying the Lightning. Here are some examples of ones with more power for under 300k.

Should I keep going. With asg's boat it was hit and repaired by Cigarette which made it better than new, but im sure that had a reason why it went for the price it did. Fountains are a production boat and the prices reflect that. They are priced well so they will sell lots of them. You cant compare the quality and the price of a Fountain to a Cig or OL. They are two totally different boats. Im not bashing Fountain here. Fountain builds a good boat, theres no doubt about that. In my opinion the 42 Hull is one of the best out there, especially for the money. It's just the quality doesnt come close to our Cig. It seems on here that Fountain owners think their boats are as good as Ol's. Yes you Fountain guys paid less money for a good solid production boat, but its not a custom boat as in an Ol or Cig. How many new Cig's or Ol's do you see with the same exact paint job?? Not many. Im mean theres 50 plus fountains with the exact same paint job, and thats just for one style. I agree on that all boats depreciate fast. But a Fountain for 220k then sell for 185k is after one year. Theres no way that if you buy a 500k Cig it sells for 300k the next year. Cigarette's are the legend that satrted this sport and people pay for the name and the quality of the product. Now I am probably going to get millions of responses by Fountain owners, so lets hear them.
