Just curious Steve, but I'm sure it's MUCH worse in the car business?
However, if YOU (being an actual expert in the used vehicle market) are questioning the frame of mind of a few performance boat shoppers, maybe much of the current group of performance boat shoppers are that far off base?
As car as Ebay pricing, and "bids" are concerned, they are useless for determining value. I bought the nicest 20 Cigarette I could have asked for on Ebay last Fall, and probably should have paid MUCH more for what I got. The people that owned the boat certainly expected a stronger sale price, as well as Neill from Cigarette... who BUILT the boat new. Nevertheless, they honored the sale, and I ended up with it.
The boat in question is worth FAR more than $88k, which is why it didn't "sell". It's irrelevant that it only brought $88k during the time it was listed, because people making this type of purchase generally do not want a "deadline" or "time limit" forcing them to rush their decision.

I respectfully totally disagree.... Ebay is a great place to determine the "wholesale" price of something, several thousand people may look at an item and the few that are interested will bid, ( including dealers) .Well if dealers won't go past a certain dollar amount that tells me they can get the same car or similar in the next upcoming auction, so why pay more. I do not know the boat that was in question, but I would think that if it was worth more than 88k , then a dealer or someone with cash on hand would have bought it and "flipped" it, if it was worth so much more. The bottom line is they are not...especially in this economy which I believe has everything to do with the price drop. Example... last year if Wilds boat was at 149,000 it would have been gone almost immedialty,... in this day it is still for sale. I am not trying to argue with anyone, I am not in the business, I am just saying that people may pay a premium for a very clean ,low hour boat that will be great for them in the coming years, but only a premium off the wholesale price!! that is what is to be determined. It will get better, just not yet !

My definition of worth (and one I've heard many, many times)is pretty simple: Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
It has absolutely nothing to do with what it will take to actually buy it, or the owners view. They can determine the price, but not "worth". If the price is below the "worth", it'll sell. It's pretty easy.
To look at all these boats that have been for sale for quite some time, I don't see how you can argue that they are worth the ask, as clearly nobody has seen it that way to buy.
On this boat, I'd think it's worth 88+ if it's relatively clean, but unfortunately that's a bit out of my range so it doesn't matter what I think. Oh, and I know of at least one TS Top Gun that could have, and was had, for less.

The pot must be flowing through South Florida again like the early 80's if this is the "best deal in the country"... WTF are these people thinking ??? and I say this cause Wilds boat is now at 149k..which he hung up on someone earlier in the year for the same price, however, there is no comparison in boats and if Randy wants to still deal a little, his boat might be the best deal in the country, but an 01 with 500's ... I would say not !!

Don't you see the logic in only seeing 88 on ebay (maybe more was offered outside of there?), but claiming 125 the "best deal in the country"?
Boat may be "worth" more than 88, as I'd pay more if I had it, but what a leap it is to 125 as the best deal. I guess I don't understand selling a boat?
