tomuchstuff,

Just a thought, but I would consider making your fairing go flush as it trails back to the deck at the midship instead of the 2" vertical drop.

My Banana boat fairing dropped off like that right where the rear seat passengers would rest there arms and it was not comfortable for them.

Also I was getting out of the cockpit one day and hit it with my shoe and damaged it. Although I am sure your fairing is built stronger.

ya,,, I have to change the slope so its at a steeper angle or trail it all the way to the back of the cock pit.. The faring is very week and mostly bondo at this point and heave like 60lbs. I have to make a mold so I can lay up a 1/4 fiberglass foam reinforced wind screen to drop some pounds and make the thing strong...

hope fully soon I can post the mold making photos...

Default may have some power!!!!!

I have been talking to Jan Hawk at Hawk Diesel for a long time now about trading some of the 1720 arneson for a 472 ford engine he had built for his own private boat.. This was copied from his web site:
"This Ford 460 is a gas jet engine that has been blue printed. It was professionally rebuilt by a local hot rod machine shop. It is bored 60 over. It has been balanced. It has a new cam, recon Dove cylinder heads, Holley 750 double pumper, aluminum Harman water pump block off plates and front and rear engine mount plates; Hardin aluminum wet manifolds and elbows; and ARP head bolts and misc fasteners. Rebuilt for my personal Hawaiian jet boat but it was never installed"

The twin disk 19' foot test boat listed a 460 ford with 450 hp, 1:1 velt, 1721 drop box 1.5 to 1, and ran a 16" 3/4" inch x 21 pitch prop and made 88mph under 5000 rpm....

I have that prop, that drop and now a hand shake on the engine after Jan stoped by and looked at the drives... I will still have a 1720 but if I make any where near 88mph with a 1721 drop box why bother testing the inline...

been slacking on the boats... I have been working on 2 fiberglass k5 blazers that needed some extra parts molded to remake glass parts, so went a head and did the blazer parts first so I know the cig wind screen mold will come out nice.

I scraped the 460 ford idea just not much of a ford fan. my friend hooked me up with a 4 bolt 454 mercruiser mag engine with low hours and some stainless wet tube headers and the parts to go roller if I want....

The engine I have has a 1401544 casting number.. The engine is listed as a 1975-87 454 4.250 4 bolt mains...

The engine serial number sticker is damaged so I only have the last 5 numbers 00005 ... but based on the year of the casting number it most likly a TRS engine seeing as it has red valve covers and oil pan,, but may be a 454 Mag. Alpha as the 86 & 87 blocks were used for that package but I think they were all black... But its hard to say if its the alpha or trs and if it is trs if its the 370hp, 400hp, 440hp or the 486ci 460hp trs with out opening her up. I can pull the date code off the block but that will not narrow it much unless the block is pre 1980 or a 1987 in witch case it will be a 370trs... it will be hard not to open her with the crane roller rockers and the crane roller cam in my shop...

I made some molds for the two fiberglass k5 blazer I am now building and it worked out real nice.... now I am looking forward to finishing the cig mold.....

I also pulled the valve covers and intake on the 454 tonight and the hours must be very low as the in no burnt oil in the raw head castings... I think I'll pull the heads and pan, that way I can check the ridge and re gasket and re plug the engine...

I got this mag from a friend who spent the last 40 years hydroplane racing and he tells me he can get 650 hp out of the motor with a roller system on a 750 double pumper,, and he tells me it will hold for a good amount of time. I am still thinking 450hp will be more of what I want....

Default to build or not to build?

so that 454 has a 1401544 casting number.. The engine is listed as a 1975-87 454 4.250 4 bolt mains.. and the only engines that were built with this block was the 454 TRS....

Talked to some friends yester day and picked up a sick set of coustom marine headers I got with the TRS engine..

My friend sold me this runing 454 TRS with a new in box comp cams roller valve train and the used custom marine headers all for $1500 and just told me pay him when I get the cash...
The same guy wants me to buy some heads 88's or 990's so he can rebuild the almost new engine into a monster.... The same guy tells me he can make close to 500hp with the smaller port heads on the magnum but after years of building hydros he knows "how to make them stay to gether" so he wants me to build a copy of the 454 in his 92mph 24baja..

I just have truble pulling a good runing 454 magnum apart....

but it is also hard to say no to a guy who hands you $10,000 dollers in parts and tells you dont worry about paying me just buy heads and let me build that engine...

Default rebuilding the arneson asd6

well just about finished pulling a part the 1721 for rebuild...

The in side of the housing is nice and clean, all the bearing are in need of replacement. but she's not so bad for her age, shafts and gears look good....

I think the NOS 1720 thrust tube's I have will fit the 1721 drop box housing... I plan to use the out put shaft and U joints from the 1721 housing with the input U joint coupler for the 1720 thrust tube...

I have both drives so may as well try and make it happen!
