I had all the tabs cut from under the floor in line for the wigens lift to pop the deck on the 20 and my friends stopped by and started giving me b.s about not splashing the bertram.... they were right so I splashed in.... it's going to rain to marrow so I run cable in the bertrem and the control & helm line but if it clears I pop the 20'..... the hull is thick and untill I flip her to to the bottom i do not think I'll will have to run the temp reinforcements....

Hey Larry - looking at your pics reminds me why I passed on this boat! Way too much work for me, but glad to see that you're doing her right.
What I was trying to tell you with regard to the HIN in my email, was that on my '73 Cigarette 20, it was stamped on the transom just above the chine, almost even with the exhaust outlet to the starboard side. It WAS NOT stamped high up near the rubrail as on the newer boats, rather lower down, where a trim tab mounting plate would be.
For the most part, OSO is a great "community" and contains a wealth of knowledge. Best of luck, and please keep us all posted on your progress!

she is in real bad shape... as big of a project as a little boat can be.. but a clean slate..... I will not be killing a rare example of a first year boat if I chose to modify her there's no guilt... maybe just a little... but her being so damaged she gives me a reason to redo some stuff I'd never do to an unbroken boat... like using up a roll of bi axle kevlar I have sitting around.... so I'll kevlar the inside of the forward deck to reinforce it... build a carbon/kevlar transom and some kevlar stringers.. lighting up the cock pit floor pan with a more rot resistant material then plywood and use newer "s-glass 20% lighter" in places of e-glass when i do not need to use kevlar in my repair.... resealing the hull to the deck with 3m 5200 over hi end 1972 window caulking..
whats nice about a core is there is not much to take apart...

Larry,
I'm going to put you in touch with Edwin, the gentleman who bought my 1973 20' Cigarette. He is in California, and doing a complete restoration on the boat, again!
He, much like you, is doing everything top notch.
It's worth it to save the classics!

I pulled the deck to day... we had the tabs cut yesterday so it was not to bad... there is more plywood in her then I thought... but the deck seems hallow,,,, a strip of ply down the center & ply in the gunnels? may be foam? I am going to have to drill some holes. stingers are solid no rot just chopped in the back...
I have some photos....
