$25K on a good day w/ TRS & 454s. Sold my Mistress last Oct 2009 and had it originally listed for about what you have your 38' at. It sat for a good while. #3SSM, blowers, new/rebuilt Randy @Stelling full headers, Huber 1200's - sold her for less than $30K and moved on to my next deal, as others have suggested. The market has not gotten better since then for older flatdecks, it's probably worse if anything. Sad but true. On a positive note - that 525 Staggered Gladiator is still avail
best of luck.

I had my 1994 Cigarette TOP GUN for sale for 2 1/2 years. I was asking the lowest price for the same year model boat compared to others. Had 2 phone calls in 2 1/2 years. Keep your boat. I gave up. Now I'm spending more money on it.

I guess it depends also on what guys consider a updated older boat. Some say fresh engine rebuilds, a new stereo, and gauges are a updated boat..
My buddy Kool-Aid on here has a 1990 Top Gun. It started life as a 420/TRS boat. In the past couple years, it has had Hull stripped down, custom 90MPH paint job, blue printed hull, new dash, new gauges, new vinyl, new cabin vinyl, cabin carpet, Konrad drives, 850HP Wesco 598 supercharged motors, stellings headers, gibson mufflers, huber trannies, and lots of other little things. With a little tweaking, its a 90MPH old school Top gun. Its a beauty, and a runner. He prob has 200k in that boat. I think it would be a hard sell priced at 75k complete in this market.
I remember last winter there was a 38 Flatdeck around the midwest for sale without power. It was a SSM III boat, came complete minus engines. I think the guy was down to 15k for it, after having it listed for a while. Wanna say he started at 25k for it. Then there was "dirty baby" the 38 Flatdeck from chicago. I know the previous owner. It was listed for like 2 years. Started at like 50k, then 40k, then 25k, then it sold for not sure what after that. It was a nice boat, original, TRS, needed some TLC, but just wouldnt sell.
I wil say this though, the 38 Flatdeck cig, EATS up rough water. Put some power in them, and they are a BLAST to run..and properly restored and updated, can be one of the classiest looking old offshores of all time.

If you want a cigarette that you can afford a flatdeck is great it is a very heavy boat. Parts are easy and cheep to replace like trim pumps, switches, bulbs, motor parts, sea pump parts. The only expensive parts would probally be the trs outdrive but they are pretty bullett proof.
INSURANCE 1986 Flatdeck $600 a year
1987 Top Gun = 2200 a year
My boat runs 69 all day and seen 72 on the best day.
3-5 foot chop with a beer sitting on my dash heavy and smooth ride.
I cannot tell you how many compaments I get on my boat. I share the same canal as the local marina and when I take my boat out for a ride everyone in the park and at there boats stare like a deer in head lights. I even seen people going up to the fence across the canal to take pics of my boat just sitting behind my house.
I have 600 hp 468 tall deck roller motors and it is turn key everyday no problems.... knock on wood. That boat you have will make a nice boat for someone.

I turned down 38K 2 months ago with out trailer because I cannot replace it "Keep in mind I have wicked motors". Michigan boating is 6 months out of a year so I cannot see spending 100K plus insurance

Um ok no there's no comparison LOL
Other than the fact that the 38' is a Mistress stretched 2.7 feet ... Just sayin'
